The Summer Cup is regarded as one of SA's top 3 races and winner is virtually an automatic for the July, even if he's only merit rated 99. In fact any Grade 1 winner is virtually an automatic.

so dave the summer cup on an average merit rating for the field would be on a par with the queens plate and the gold challenge over a mile at clairwood...dont think because the stake far exceeds those races that the quality of field is superior in fact is is way inferior......iv seen pinnacle plates have superior fields to the summer cup.....for many many years it has BEEN A REGIONAL RACE not attracting the best from the cape....another thing the fact that races have group one two or 3 is for the stud book and the guineas in natal being a group 2 race shows how flawed it is....the summer cup is no more than a group 2 at best equal to the july consolation race thart is held on july day

Pirates would that be the same Summer Cup aka Group 2/July Consolation that El Piche won?? Peruse these FACTS and see if you can still believe what you claim..here are the horses that competed in both the SC and the July last year which are only 5 months apart

Smange Smange, July 2nd (sh Hd) beaten 5,5 L in the SC
Cheselon July 3rd (1L) beaten 17,75 in the SC
Vettel July 6th ( 1,40) beaten 3,5L in the SC
White Line Fever July 8th (2,75) Beaten 2,75 in the SC
Pierre Jourdan July 11th (5,80) Beaten 3,80 in the SC
Illa Bella July 13th (6l) Beaten 7,5 in the SC
Sage Throne July 14th (6,50) Beaten 20l in the SC

Knock On Wood was beaten 10L in the Summer Cup and ran 2nd beaten under 2l by Heavy Metal in a Grade 1...how can you possibly talk this race down, facts are there to be seen

@ Hibbs Winners of the July, Met and SC are automatic inclusion in those races since time began

Correct. The best trial race for 3 year olds in the country IMO.

Where is True Master on the list, does the EP derby carry that little sway? What is True Master's new rating?
