If Lovestruck is allowed to skip the gallops on Thursday then it's pretty shrewd of Laff, while the other contenders gallop from the 1600 for free at least he has a chance to earn some cash over the weekend.

One horse for me, H54, has the jock , proven form, can race handy, stays the trip.

His price is more realistic now but has been trading at nice odds in the build up. Pomodoro the main danger.

For anyone that's interested, check out Mike de Kock's website for his reaction to the leaving out of Rock Cocktail, also at the end of the article, to the leaving out of Woodruff's Tellina. He is as outspoken as always!

Agra, looks like the punters listened to Duncan Howells cause I see at least three of the listed ATC's are with his horses. Good Luck mate!!!

Since the distance of the race changed to 2200m in 1970, few horses carrying 55kgs or more have won and these are:

1978 Politician 57kgs

1980 Beau Art 55,5kgs

2000 El Picha 58kgs

2007 Hunting Tower 55kgs

2008 Pocket Power 58kgs

2010 Bold Silvano 55,5kgs

2011 Igugu 55kgs

2012 Pomodoro 55kgs – spot the trend here?!

Punta Arenas for me, carrying Kapil's colours. I was a huge Kapil fan when he ran and was let down so maybe Punta Arenas will put history right. I missed the early big prices and only got 23/1. If he blows out closer to the race I will have more on.

Reasons:

Domeyer Met / July Double
Like the form:
1. 2 lengths behind Hill 54 in the Algoa cup at level weights
2. 1.25 lengths behind Hill 54 in the Peninsula 2kg swing in PA's favour
3. PA now gets 6kg's on Hill 54
4. Hill 54 has been a leading light for the July for a while so why should PA not finish in front of him
5. Finished 2.25 behind Pomadora at level weights in a pinnacle stakes race at Greyville now gets 6.5kgs on Pomadora

Poor run at Clairwood behind a whole lot of horses that never made this years line up is a concern and the draw is the obvious other concern. I think the light weight can negate the effect of the draw. Maybe he likes Greyville more. Its been a while since we had a long shot win the July so I am all in on Punta Arenas. I would love to see Stan Elley and connections win this years July.

I will be shouting Punta Arenas on the 06th day of July 2013!!!!

If everything on paper played out in the July then he would have a decent chance. Pomodoro won at about 50/1 last year which is a pretty long price.
