VAAL SAND - Thursday 4th July

Speed ratings for main contenders with previous Vaal Sand form –

R1 JUV-F 1200m
77…Seattle Fairy 7/1
68…Princess Faull 25/1
64…Sugaree 14/1
Inclined to double float the top 2 in a quartet in the belief that one of the favourites will not perform on the sand.

R2 MDN 1200m
80…Mr. Alfonso 13/10
78…Banjo Bay 4/1
70…Sir Swarovski 9/2
68…Rebel Heart 16/1
62…Fighting Force 16/1
??…Cashasa 7/1
Initially thought the 13/10 about Mr. Alfonso was rather skinny, yet the next 3 ‘form’ horses have poor draws. Banjo Bay improved lto, also from a poor draw, and looks the main danger. The early pace of the well drawn Cashasa may change the ‘luck’ of the KZN raiders and is an inclusion for quartets.

R3 MDN-F 1400m
79…The It Girl 9/2
75…Swift Bow 2/1
75…Cerise Silk 28/10
71…White Party 6/1
59…New Religion 25/1
Whilst consistent, Swift Bow has only been mediocre on the sand, and again looks vulnerable. The It Girl was very disappointing last week following a promising first sand run in May…worth another chance here! Cerise Silk on best form last 2 runs and certainly not out of it. MGA is a top VS trainer…this supports the chances of White Party, yet the form is erratic. All in all a tricky start to the P6 with little confidence, or value, with the main contenders.

R4 MR84F 1450m
99…Georgia on my Mind 28/10
92…Dalalaat 8/1
91…Casa Nostra 9/2
86…Shattered Image 10/1
86…Amazing Grace 10/1
86…Jolly Wood 10/1
??…Break of Dawn 11/2
With 3 wins on sand this year Georgia on my Mind looks really good value here.
Shattered Image has the best sand history and any improvement on her last two runs would see her feature again. STP runners usually do well on sand and the ‘luckless’ Break of Dawn is one to watch but it looks hard to oppose Georgia.

R5 PIN STAKES 1200m
112…Across the Ice 9/10
108…Right Beauty 5/1
101…Boy Oh Boy 25/1
101…Emir 25/1
100…Hang Fire 10/1
..95…Funny Glory 12/1
.??….Bay Route 12/1
Across the Ice is undoubtedly the VS 1200m star…yet the usually reliable SGT stable last had a VS winner on 23rd April, and their 20 runners at the 7 VS race meetings since then have only managed one 2nd and one 4th…uncharacteristic statistic for them, especially as a number of them were short priced fancies. Class may well carry him through, if not, the door may be open for Right Beauty. Boy Oh Boy looks good in the quartet.

R6 MR85 1600m
101…Shadow Line 15/10
101…Ryan’s a Lion 25/1
..98…Master Entertainer 14/1
..98…Spectroscope 12/1
..97…Panjo 7/2
..91…Caryl’s Law 50/1
Shadow Line was very impressive on 20th June, the also rans then were all ‘run off their feet’, running 5-10 lengths below their previous form…will that form line hold up? Master Entertainer appeals in the PA and Ryan’s a Lion has good VS history albeit some time back. Panjo obvious contender on scintillating last run, and we can forgive Spectroscope’s last run…upset possibilities exist in this race!

R7 MR70 1600m
95…Divine Invitation 5/1
90…Paint Your Face 5/1
89…Sugar Ray 14/1
88…Ushkadel 10/1
86…Blue Concorde 10/1
86…Lucky Wishes 50/1
.??…Eternity 11/2
As the betting suggests very open race…recent winners Divine Invitation and Paint Your Face could easily win again. They shall do for me because – if not them, then where? Does that mean going very wide – who do you leave out then? Not the two 50/1 shots in the race! AGL’s VS runners seem to do their best on the first visit to the track…Eternity certainly has the turf form, will it count here? More questions than answers for sure!

R8 MR68F 1800m
94…Miss K 9/2
93…Olympic Spring 9/2
86…Waltzing Duel 33/1
85…Water Bird 5/2
82…Sparkling Saphir 12/1
80…Beautiful Dawn 20/1
Again its got to be the top 2, (and Water Bird), or get your pin out one more time.
Water Bird won over 1450 then 1200m last week and now goes 1800m…no doubt MGA knows his business around VS – although her wins, and the company, were not ‘top class’ she nevertheless won, so is this confidence or bravado?
An interest point from last weeks Miss K win was that the first 11 were within 4.25 lengths of the winner (rarely seen on the sand), probably due to the pace of the race by Aloha Bay…this may have flattered the speed ratings for some of today’s runners (Lucky Wishes, Jolly Wood and Waltzing Duel). However, Olympic Spring was one of the fastest finishers and looks the best suited to today’s 1800m.

Both our runners very well.
A.Moon - huge jump in class, but we will try to steal it from the draw.
Miss K - a privilege to work with any horse who simply gives his or her best always ! Mike Azzie's filly, Water Bird looks the one to beat, but Miss K is still very well and will, as always, give her very best. She wont go down without a fight, in her quest for a hat trick.
