With hindsight would I do it again? :S
11 years 9 months ago
On Thursday am 08/08/13, whilst parked at the traffic lights an idiot was attempting to break the passenger side window of a vehicle in front of me. The driver of that vehilce was a female and was hooting and screaming for assistance.
Conundrum, do I assist or not?
Well I jumped out approached the guy pulled him away threw a punch, but when he pulled his hand/arm out of the window which he had broken by now, it appears he cut himself and with the screwdriver he had utilised attempted to poke me. I think more out of surprise on his part at being confronted he missed but the blood from his cuts then sprayed in my eyes and mouth.
He obviously ran away.
The lady in the car, drove away hastily not as if I was looking for thanks and the rest of the traffic carried on as if nothing had happened.
Here I am, this idiots blood in my eyes and mouth, luckily I always have bottled water in my car. I rinsed my eyes, gargled as best I could.
Contacted my GP who insisted I make my way to his surgery immediately.
I was then presented with the various scenarios by my doc and subsequently done a flash HIV test which thankfully returned negative, I have been put on a 30 day ARV course of tabs which I have to take every 12 hours and also have to return for a 6 week test on the 19/9, a 3 month test on 8/11 and 6 month on the 8/2/2014.
These tabs are not cool at all as have a number of side affects and although have only been taking from Thursday am, the headaches are horrendous as well as have one of the sides which are flu like symptoms.
So until the 19/9 when I return for the next test it is going to be extrememely stressful as the 6 weeks test normally is the main test which shows whether one is infected or not.
So my wife and parents are wrecks, my kids are to small to understand so we not going to explain to them,
Therefore I say before you act think of the repocussions!
Easy said than done I suppose !

I guess it boils down to the age old question, "Is it better to be a live rat, than a dead lion?".
I hope I do the same as you, IF the need arises!
Well done, Super Man!!

@ Super Red -- You are a Super Hero. A man with guts and compassion.
The woman being attacked in her car could have been any one of our wives,
daughters, mothers or sisters, so thank you for your truly wonderful act.
I am truly sorry that you have to go through the course of drugs with their
horrible side effects, but better to go this route to be safe. You did a wonderful
thing Super Red. I salute you !!

An admirable thing to do but also very stupid as this guy could have had a knife or a gun and you would be possibly dead today. especially reading that the woman just thought of herself by just driving away without even bothering to find out how you were.
