EMPERORS PALACE READY TO RUN SALES WRITE UP
18 September 2013
Bloodstock South Africa are proud to announce a world-class catalogue for the 2013 Emperors Palace Ready to Run Sale.
The sale is set to take place at the TBA’s Germiston complex on November 1st and 3rd, where some 248 exquisitely bred horses are up for sale.
The first session, which kicks off at 16:00, will see lots 1-110 go under the hammer. The second day of trading, which starts at 14:00, will see 111-248 be knocked down.
All horses sold at this sale will automatically qualify for the rich and prestigious Emperors Palace Ready to Run Cup of 2014 where graduates of the sale will race for R3m. Buyers remember to tick the box!
Ready To Run graduates have built up a tremendous record over the years, as a look back at past sales’ stars will indicate. From the likes of Horse of the Year Igugu and champion Pierre Jourdan, to this season’s promising 3yos Dover Beach, Winter Star and Admiral’s Eye, the Ready To Run Sale annually produces its share of high-class performers.
Other notables to have graduated from the RTR Sale include last season’s Oaks winner Dylan’s Promise, Gr1 SA Derby runner up Gothic, Gold Bowl hero Winning Leap, and star international miler Imbongi – to mention just a few of the top-class athletes bought off the sale.
Last year’s sale has also produced its share of smart winners, including the classy Duly Ordained (AUS), eye catching debut winners Pej and Yeoville, potential Guineas horse Solar Star , Grade One horse Umgiyo (AUS), and the progressive colt Mount Hillaby.
This year, many of the country’s top farms will offer lots at the Ready to Run Sale and the overall quality of the catalogue shows how this sale has grown in status and class and rates up there with the best sales in the land. The list of stallions with progeny on sale includes South Africa’s very best sires, such as Captain Al, Dynasty, Fort Wood (USA), Jet Master, Kahal (GB), Silvano (GER), Trippi (USA) and Var (USA) all have attractive individuals due to pass under the hammer.
There are also offspring by the late, great Western Winter (USA) on sale – and these individuals are bound to prove popular.
Promising sires Antonius Pius (USA), Argonaut, Jay Peg, Judpot (USA), Kildonan, Rebel King and Sail From Seattle (CAN), to name but a few, are also strongly represented at the 2013 Emperors Palace Ready to Run Sale.
Sires with their first 2yos selling include Brave Tin Soldier (USA), Elusive Fort, Fort Beluga, Ideal World (USA), Lateral (GB), Mambo In Seattle (USA), Oracy (NZ), and Seventh Rock (AUS).
The Ready to Run Sale also offers South African buyers a rare opportunity to acquire well bred thoroughbreds with top-class international pedigrees. Some of the world’s leading sires have prized lots on offer.
World-class sires represented on the sale include Bernardini (USA), Danehill Dancer (IRE), Encosta De Lago (AUS), Hussonet (USA), Rock Of Gibraltar (IRE), Tale Of The Cat (USA) and Teofilo (IRE).
While the catalogue is rich in well bred individuals, a few lots really stand out:

RTR CANDIDATE SHOWS HER CLASS
16 September 2013
Winter Star, currently third on the log for the 2013 Emperors Palace R3 000 000 Ready to Run Cup, scored an emphatic win at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon.
Owned by Mr Veeramootoo, Winter Star ran out a two and a quarter length winner of a conditions plate, to take her tally to three wins from just five outings. She looks a lovely filly, and one who should be followed!
Bred by Summerhill Stud, Winter Star was a R100 000 purchase at the 2012 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale. Having already earned over R170 000 , she looks to have been a tremendous bargain at the price!
By Danehill’s son Solskjaer, Saturday’s winner was produced by the three time winning Exclusive Patriot mare, Winter Dimension.

SMART DEBUT WINNER FOR ARGONAUT
18 September 2013
There have been a large number of impressive performances recently from graduates of the 2012 Emperors Palace Ready to Run Sale.
Following on from Winter Star’s fine win on Saturday, Yeoville (Argonaut – Nareem) made a winning debut at the Vaal on Thursday.
The Lucky Houdalakis trained 3yo was backed down to favouritism and showed plenty of guts to win the 1200m contest by a neck.
Bred by the Yellow Star Stud, Yeoville is owned by PCS (Pty) Ltd in partnership with Mr Wolmerans.
Tuesday’s winner was a R65 000 bargain buy at last year’s Ready to Run Sale, and, no doubt, this year’s sale will see plenty more great value for money horses pass through the ring!
This year’s sale will take place at Germiston on November 1st and 3rd, and is not to be missed!

AWESOME HATRICK FOR SEATTLE
18 September 2013
Ascot Stud’s superbly bred young stallion, Sail From Seattle, was represented by a remarkable hatrick of winners at Durbanville on Wednesday afternoon. Offspring of the stallion won the first three races on the card – giving their sire a clean sweep in the process.
The Stephen Page trained Sail South got the afternoon underway when he won the first race, a maiden plate over 1200m. His paternal half-brother, Gulf Storm, won the second race for Brett Crawford with a smooth 1.5 length victory in the afternoon’s second event.
Sail From Seattle’s beautifully bred daughter, Seattle Moon, gave her sire an almost unheard of third winner on the card, when the Yogas Govender trained filly broke her duck over 1200m.
Sail From Seattle (Gone West – Seattle Classic) has made a superb start to his stud career. His first crop includes East Cape Champion Seattle Storm, Grade One performer Tommy Gun, and the unbeaten, and now exported, colt My Nephew Eric.
Popular in the sales ring, Sail From Seattle’s yearlings have fetched up to R1 000 000. He also was in demand at the 2013 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale, when Sail From Seattle was the sales’ fifth leading sire by aggregate, ahead of such sires as Jet Master, Var, and Trippi.
Sail From Seattle will be represented on the 2013 Emperors Palace Ready to Run Sale with two nicely bred lots:
Lot 17 is a colt out of the stakes placed Al Mufti mare Royal Splendour. The colt on offer is a half-brother to 3 winners, including the useful, stakes placed juvenile Royal Tribe.
Lot 218 is a full brother to the smart, stakes placed colt Navistar. His dam is a half-sister to another smart stakes performer by Sail From Seattle, so the sire has clearly done extremely well with this family – also responsible for champion sprinters Taban and En Avant.
Bloodstock South Africa would like to congratulate Ascot Stud, and all involved with this wonderful young stallion.

Of you look at the current log here:
www.tba.co.za/pdf/2013_Emperors_Palace_R...up_Log_Sept_12_2.pdf
it seems that this year's race will be stronger than 2012. Last year the highest rated horse was a 90, the lowest a 77.
