easy is no just the hiding that is the discipline. sit with child after and explain why the hiding is give. get the commitment from child about how the problem is be sorted out. tell child that you love him and you will no accept the behaviour. to much focus you have on the hiding. many many times no hiding is take place. but believe me when the talk is finish then the backside is get stinging and the ears have the miracle and they work again!

my friend i am no the world greatest parent. my way work for me i am blessed with good kids. i wish this for you to regard less what and how you raise your child (tu).

Flash Harry, that is excellent. Totally agree with you. Far more disruptive, unmannered, disrespectable kids around these days and all due to not enough discipline because of these new rules. (tu)(tu)(tu)

Some great use of flawed logic being applied...but each to his own...

so why do we have any punishment ...when we could just use reason.....:D

Look we can all respect whatever opinion you want to have and good for Craig and Flash if it's worked for you! I still cannot see how you can smack hit or do anything physical to a person who cannot defend themselves in the name of discipline. You say you are better people for it good for you but in my opinion you could never respond because you could not hit back! Did you ever say to your father you a bully I can't fight back I'm too small go ff yourself ! I think not because you would have had the crap beaten out of you! Come on guys next time you have that little guy or girl in front of you think again! Would you smack a small girl because she didn't understand what she did wrong and then tell your son never hit a woman? Huh ? Come on guys we have moved on ! It's like living in the past because it happened to you it's good! So nobody knows anything - like we all hated gays when we were small so we should carry on with that? So I grew up in apartheid South Africa and that was good . WTF times change ! Discipline is one thing physical abuse on people who can't defend themselves is sick in my opinion. So while I respect your point of view you all carry on . I just hope we can move on and stop abusing anyone in the name of discipline ! Just look at your daily news bulletins! It's enough now let me abuse myself with Vodka and I'll respect you for whatever you want to do! Good Night - ouch eina my !! My wife just Klapped me !

This is rather conflicting.........................:S........so will make both factions happy........:D

Young children who are smacked by their
parents grow up to be happier and more successful than those who have never been hit, research claims.
It found that children who are smacked before the age of six perform better at school when they are teenagers.
They are also more likely to do voluntary work and to want to go to university than those who have never been physically disciplined.
But the study also revealed that children who are smacked after the age of six were more likely to exhibit behavioural problems, such as being involved in fights.
Smacking is currently banned in 20 European countries, including Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.
In Britain 'reasonable chastisement' in the home is allowed unless it leaves a mark.

But the study, by Marjorie Gunnoe, professor of Psychology at Calvin College in the U.S. state of Michigan, found there was not enough evidence to prove that smacking harmed most children.

She said: 'The claims that are made for not spanking children fail to hold up.
'I think of spanking as a dangerous-tool, but then there are times when there is a job big enough for a dangerous tool. You don't use it for all your jobs.'
Professor Gunnoe questioned 2,600 people about being smacked, of whom a quarter had never been physically chastised.
The participants' answers then were compared with their behaviour, such as academic success, optimism about the future, antisocial behaviour, violence and bouts of depression.

Teenagers in the survey who had been smacked only between the ages of two and six performed best on all the positive measures.
Those who had been smacked between seven and 11 fared worse on negative behaviour but were more likely to be academically successful. Teenagers who were still smacked fared worst on all counts.

Parenting guru Penelope Leach disagreed with the findings.
'No good can come from hitting a child,' she said. 'I do not buy this idea that children will learn positive behaviour from being smacked.
'The law says adults hitting adults is wrong and children should be protected in the same way. Children are people too.'

But psychologist Aric Sigman said: 'The idea smacking and violence are on a continuum is a bizarre and fetished view of what punishment is for most parents.

'If it's done judiciously by a parent who is normally affectionate and sensitive to their child, our society should not be up in arms about that. Parents should be taught to distinguish this from a punch in the face.'

Two years ago, Britain was criticised by the UN for failing to ban smacking in the home, after experts said it was a form of abuse.

And growing numbers of the public seem to agree: A recent poll found 71 per cent of parents would support a ban on smacking.

Hmmmmn Countrymember ? And as for Pirhobeta your question regarding Gin ? It always confused me when as a 14 year old I heard these old dicks around the parade ring talking about Gin every time a horse walked past! I had no idea what they were on about so I asked my old man if I could have a gin cause it sounded like a good thing ! He Klapped me !! I've never been the same again ! So now Im on Vodka and look where that got me ? Never backed a winner since!
