Beach Beauty v Cape Town Noir

Phumelela media release

The battle is on. Dennis Drier has decided to take on crack miler Capetown
Noir with his top mare, Beach Beauty, in the Green Point Stakes at
Kenilworth on Saturday.
The six-year-old was immensely impressive on her return over 200m less in a
Pinnacle Stakes at the end of last month while Capetown Noir, winner of
last season’s Cape Guineas and Investec Cape Derby, created just as big an
impression when slamming the opposition in the Grade 3 Kuda Insurance
Matchem Stakes at Durbanville. However, Capetown Noir is badly drawn at No
14 while Beach Beauty has a plum draw at No 3.
Also in the line-up is this year’s J&B Met runner-up Hill Fifty Four, who
will be ridden by Anton Marcus, and Bravura, who was second to Igugu in
last year’s Met. Yogas Govender will saddle Lake Arthur who chased home
Beach Beauty last month.
Gavin van Zyl will be three-handed with Vodacom Durban July fourth-placed
No Worries (Brandon Lerena), Bulsara (MJ Byleveld) and Big City Angel, the
mount of Glen Hatt who last won this on Winter Solstice eight years ago.
Selangor king Dean Kannemeyer, bidding for his seventh success in 12
seasons, runs three in Saturday week’s Kenilworth Guineas trial. The trio
are headed by Power King and Karl Neisius’s mount has losses to recover
after managing only third to Shogunnar in a slowly-run graduation plate
last time.
Kevin Shea has been booked for the highly regarded Capel Top, who
comfortably landed odds of 6-10 in a 1 200m maiden earlier this month,
while Grant Behr will be on Speed Rocket, whose unbeaten record came to an
end when he was third under top weight in a 1400m handicap on the same day.
The Grade 3 Elusive Fort Cape Classic could well hold the key to this race
as Legislate (second), De Kock (third) , Zambezi Torrent (seventh) and
Strongman (eighth) renew rivalry with the last two considerably better off
at the weights. However, Strongman and Legislate have been done no favours
by the draw.
Red Ray, hugely impressive on his return in the Cape Classic, is likely to
start odds-on for the Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes, presented by CTS,
despite his No 11 draw. He started from this same pen last time and was one
of the fastest away.
Antonius Du Bois, conceding 2kg when fourth in the Cape Classic, is the
only runner in the field rated within 5kg of the Joey Ramsden-trained star.
The Grade 2 Betting World Merchants, which was washed out last weekend,
will also be run on Saturday.
