Robin Van Persie
11 years 6 months ago
Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has claimed that journalists have told him that Robin van Persie has handed in a transfer request at Manchester United.
The Dutch striker, who has been sidelined in recent weeks with a combination of groin and toe injuries, is said to have informed manager David Moyes of his desire to leave Old Trafford on Tuesday.
"There's all sorts of rumours coming out of the training ground at the moment," Lawrenson told Today FM. "One or two of the press boys that I know that cover Manchester United, they're even saying that the big whisper is Van Persie might have asked for a transfer on Tuesday. So if that happens, what a mess that's going to be for David Moyes."
Van Persie joined United last summer from Arsenal and went on to score 26 Premier League goals as the Red Devils won the title for a 20th time.
He must be gutted, looking at the table.
Whatever happened to rolling your sleeves up and fighting for your club..

Having an amazing talent is one thing but without an iota of loyalty it is nothing I hope he does not end up at The Bridge...

Not sure why he should be gutted looking at the table.
Even as a United supporter, I am saying that there is NO SHAME in that.
Even if we don't win anything, so what.
I am just thinking of the "bun fight" the other 4 clubs are having.
To win something though or even a place in Europe would be an achievement for Moyes.

David Moyes insists his Manchester United side are still in the Premier League title race despite suffering two home defeats in the space of four days.
United are 12 points behind leaders Arsenal, who play Everton on Sunday.
After a 1-0 loss to Newcastle followed defeat by Everton , Moyes said: "I stand firm we will be very close. I hope we are in it at the end of the season."
When asked why he was so confident, he said: "The players - because I am working with the champions."
