I am taking it a step further, studying for racing takes hours, studying for sort much less time as the information out there is superb. I have just pm'ed magi as he offered to help me with a programme with my weight loss. Giving up racing has now freed up TIME in my life and that cost i had never factored in.
Don't get me wrong i love racing, i love the Frankels and the Black Caviars, the Cue Cards and Kauto Stars of this world. I enjoy the experts i read about like Nicholls and De Kock, ill still follow and when required to do so ill study and give an opinion BUT for now i am going to shed 60kgs and enjoy sports betting. I have posted 4 bets and 3 have lost but i will keep posting and keep going because apart from 1 or 3 freak results the rest pretty much play to form.
cheers

I think punting horses is all about picking your plums. Some races anything can win but there are always races where only 2 or 3 can win. This is where studying and seeing the horses in the parade and canter past helps you to pick a horse to have a bet on.Just my take on it and you should get better than even money for your efforts!

James,
I can concede to that but then a few things need to happen
1: i need to be at the course
2: i need to get a decent bet on to make it worth the while
Number 1 is impossible for me and most right now

You know Easy, I figure if we could just get with the information technology age and get decent coverage on both social media as well as live then we don't need to be on course.
I have made it a science picking out the horses I like going to post and I'm pretty accurate after about 25 years.
The problem is that I get to see less than 20% of the canter downs.......
Even when they have two local meetings, on Racing International the editing is so bad that, when the horses canter down they show results and dividends of previous races......
We have no chance. If I enjoyed sports betting as much as I do race punting, I would have followed suit a long time ago, but alas, I don't

Yeah that does make it difficult and the main reason I have always advocated that TT concentrate on local racing and use overseas as a filler while the SA. Meeting is being run.

Easy you are 100% correct. Sports betting is definitely more lucrative than horses and the pathetic excuses we keep getting. I am in your camp. Went from being an owner and exotics punter to now making sports bets my main play. I've now given up totally on horses. Can't stand to put up with all the controversies surrounding this beloved sport.

Tommy,
i get it....i also have an eye for the canter down but that has fallen away as you say. BUT it is deeper than that, its in and out running. Anyone that knows my way of playing will tell you i am a field man, i look for bigger priced runners and then add fields around them so that if/when it connects then pay pay
i am the guy that gets the 1000/1 exacta
what i can't fathom is the following for example and i want to CLARIFY that i am at this stage reserving the right to blame many people in this.
on the following day i BANKER this horse in everything as i make it a RACING CERTAINTY
www.formgrids.com/subscriber/fgRaceResul...1TN390,ZA&hs=FANZENE
ts a typical RUBBISH handicap served up in South Africa which is really a conditions handicap because its for fillies and mares only (plenty of these) BUT because its RUBBISH it present opportunity as most of the field CANT WIN
FANZENE that day runs 3.5 lengths below her rating
11 days later
www.formgrids.com/subscriber/fgRaceResul...1TN432,ZA&hs=FANZENE
runs to her rating and wins a G3 (conditional) NEARLY a second SLOWER
NOW
1: is this just the way horses are
2: should trainer be asked by journalists about horse future engagements and their current fitness
NOW you might think this is about FANZENE BUT its actually become about CASA NOSTRA
1: How does it get beat next time out
2: Why is it NOT 6/4 next time out
i can't fathom it out, maybe I'm useless. I know the going was different but Casa had run 2nd in soft and the winning time in soft was comparable to her time in good so maybe not as "soft" as thought.
How can anyone figure this out?

Easy, that is a valid concern.
This is why I like the English racing style because, for the most part, if a horse has a chance it runs well in the race it is participating in.
There, the pace is always solid and if a horse is fit enough it will run to form.
In south africa it happens all too often that horses are given runs to bring them on, get them to race off a decent winning mark or just to recover from gelding or vaccinations....
We really are on a hiding to nothing and I don't see it getting any better,
I have often wondered if the operators and the NHA don't realize that there won't be as much criticism of them and there wouldn't be as much outcry if they simply did a good job. It really is that simple......
Keep everyone happy and don't make bad decisions and you won't have uprisings and course sit ins and all that jazz......
Pie in the sky I know
