Unhappy owners

My partner is an RA member, which should give the member benefits, but it seems this is not the case.On Queens Plate day, the RA members do not have access to the R A Paddock Room, except for a price of R2500 per person. Ok so we could go to the Pocket Power room for a mere R600 per person, we have a problem with that too, what happens if you just want to sit quietly with a drink or two and a sandwich, enjoying the racing. It seems that we have no options, so unless you are with a big trainer/owner who has a private box, we are left sitting on the grandstand with our fancy outfits with our R A badge. We have a horse running on Saturday, which we were only aware of after acceptances, we are totally disgusted with the treatment of small owners and small trainers who also have nowhere to go unless you pay an arm and a leg.We have attended the Met & July for many years with no trouble getting a seat in one of the rooms, with the option of having food if you so desire, the only stipulations were that you applied for an arm band to gain entry. So from disallusioned owners, what are the benefits of membership – not a lot.Via email – Ms Me Cunnington & Mr H C Smit

Very poor, imo, should expect to be given preference to RA members, however as with everything these days is the pound & dollar mightier than the rand?:S

Racing is like the ANC, if you the minority you're a mushroom! They only look after the perceived important 8-)

Floyd,, couldn't agree with you more. What exactly are the benefits being an R.A. member.

On big race days u are treated as a nobody, unless u fork out THE BIG BUCKS FOR ONE OF THE ROOMS.
I've been to the met & July a few times, but now its cheaper / better to watch from home.

That's why I gave my member badge in and my colors witch I had for 13 years, I'm a small owner 10% or 20% of a horse and must pay the same price as a owner that owns 200 horses, this game is not for small people anymore, all the RA board big shots are on the gravy train ,they have never had it so good,But every dog gets it day .

All owners in Phumelela land pay to the RA . whether a member or not. Nomination and acceptance fees paid to enter races include a fee to the RA. In the 2013 accounts that added up to R11.3 million. membership subs were 900k. So All owners who race in Phumelela operated racecourse pay to the RA. R11 million taken out of owners pockets.
