I think that the decision to field was influenced in some small way by Smith's aversion to facing Johnson on a slightly green wicket having already broken hand / fingers to him...also seems strange to still field when champion bowler was not well at start of day...save for first session, heat flattened wicket and seemed good for batting. Could be a long day today unless Steyn has overcome illness...two batsmen are set and close of play was a blessing...

Must try to get the last three wickets by lunch so that SA can benefit from flatter post-lunch pitch...seems that wicket sweating under covers overnight if no highveld storm and sun drying it out as day progresses...

The pitch doesn't look like a difficult one so will need to bat very well to put pressure on the Aussie. I don't see it deteriorating too much so recon the 7/4 on a draw looks a good bet.

If the last wicket falls in next half hour, result still highly likely if no rain...can't see either of the teams getting 300 in their second innings as sun bakes pitch and cracks widen / start crumbling...
