The biggest problem with the pitch is that the Aussies and SA's main weapon of getting batsmen caught behind is not there as the ball doesn't carry. Very hard to get anyone out with the bll coming on so slowly. Only poor shots lead to wickets here.

Was Philander under instruction to bat so slowly or is the bowling that tight that its difficult to score runs. Steyn must just gooi his bat at everything now for a few overs then settle in and get that score past 400

SA have kept Aus in field longer in this inning than in entire 1st test...136+ overs vs +-120 overs...
