@Richie77, yes we are honest with owners as to which we prefer, however...
It's not easy to get runs at the best of times and every runner of ours is a trier. Also if you keep "waiting" for the right race, by the time it comes around your horse needs s run again. Take Signature for Oscar today...2nd run after a long rest, against strong opposition but his work is improving and he goes out to try and get the best place possible.
Luckily we have owners and friends who understand racing and accept our decisions and choices of runners and races. We also own the majority of horses in the yard so they have to make it pay. We will always discuss our thoughts and plans with owners though. We were on that side of the fence for a long time too.

I was just wondering what contributors think of the below scenario:
A stable enters 4 horses in a race one of which has great form and is knocking on the door. The horse is clearly going to be everybody's favourite and jump at evens. The other 3 have mediocre form. The stable jockey ends up on a 20/1 shot and because of his experience beats the favourite that was ridden OKish but by an apprentice jockey.
Is this fair to the punter?

And what about when you only have one in the race, not fancied, which arrives? Isnt that the same thing?
As for the Shams, the bottom line is that they use every opportunity and produce. Simple fact.
Overall, I agree with Mark, on the stabling issue - we have same problem at Vaal - young, growing Vaal Trainer has 20 horses on farm, ready to come in. A small yard of 14 comes available...... and is given to an outside Trainer.....
PE is even more difficult, though. There they have many fewer racemeetings, so to stop the growth of the locals, by giving stables to satellites instead, is harsh. The PE based yard which is growing, is on a hiding to nothing, imho. As they get the results, which create the growth, they cannot get stables...:S

Thanks Shams. I can't see anything wrong with conducting business that way. I have heard 2ns hand of an owner in one of the other yards been told his horse is a definite winner and to get as much of the price as possible only to be beaten by its stable mate. The after SMS was along the lines of it didn't eat well in the morning.
I didn't choose the #puntlife, the #puntlife chose me!
