They are the closest proxy for government that I have seen...just as government has its excesses for the elite whilst thinking that tax and rate-payers are a bottomless source of funds so too does the operators treat the punter with disdain whilst thinking that every rand bet must go to them...

This morn John Robbie, radio 702, was going through the Citizen's headlines and finished off by saying "German Lady to win at Scottsville". He ended by saying "do people still go racing?".

I must say The Citizen is the one paper (in JHB can't comment elsewhere) that tries to promote racing. Pity the powers that be don't help but BIG (tu) to The Citizen.

We do receive the Kzn edition of the Citizen, but have yet to find the Saturday edition here. Excellent racing coverage.

Been to Emerald Casino on the Vaal River 4 times in the last week. have not looked at a form guide. 1st time in 6 years have not bothered to go buy the sporting posts for the week.

Free Drinks at the Casino, "vip" parking based on spend. none of this critical to me but they are Looking after the customer.

Hibs, the Citizen on an on going basis provides a decent racing service. The Friday before a big raceday they always have the trainers comments about their featured runners.
