How long can we carry on with these carryovers
Bring back the coupling rule and give us a fair chance

I can understand why the tote wants bigger payouts .............small payouts expose the lack of value of net pools!
However, why introduce a rule which looks to favour insiders in an industry that already has trust issues.
When I started racing 40 years ago, exotics cost 50c per line, without fractional betting, so given normal inflation, surely that should be a minimum of R2.50 by now,and if a minimum fractional bet was ,say 5% (instead of the present 1%) we could re-introduce couplings and we would have a similar result but without the perceived manipulation.
Would that not be a reasonable compromise of making the exotics more difficult and get rid of the feeling of being stuffed by the "wrong" horses in couplings?

" They " will not listen, they're not listening still, perhaps they never will.:S
It's been reduced to a Lotto now, keep on carrying-over while the interest grows in the bank account, if only the punters stopped digging deep into their pockets.......................(td)

I cant see them changing any rules as its going well for them, pools remain decent size and with carryovers they keep spliting them up example 500 k gets devided into 4 race meetings and they can advertise carryover, and the pools remain decent. Our carryovers should go to next meeting or saved for one major pot, but sadly this doesnt happen. Carryovers are split for punter bait.
I was happy when the rule was changed but in all my years in racing, the last 1 year i have never seen such form reversals, and so many wrong stable mates winning. Racing needs the rule of in and out running to be enforced strictly, horse suspensions.its become a joke

My point exactly................wasn't it inevitable?

i just dont get it...what r u guys going on about big payouts /carryovers/etc....its not as if the tote are bookmakers and if you lost the bet they take the money .....its goes back to the very punters....albeit in different stages.....try tell the guy who caught 6% of saturdays p6 for i think R800 rands, that non coupling rule is a bad idea...i just guess it decides on which side of the fence we are....when we catch ,its great,...when we lose its a case of sour grapes......why the coupling rule was ever introduced in the first place is beyond me...i backed a horse....not a stable....in fact in the old days when i took my p6 and millard had 5 horse couplings...i used to put all 5 horses in and add 2/3 from the rest of the field if i fancied a horse from the stable but not quite confident to banker it..the very pools r going right back into the industry...especially with fractional betting, its a great initiative to grow interest...why should a bet like the p6...pay R2000.00.....i rather be playing for the R200 000..

I also don't like the new rules. However, all I have done is to change my betting approach. I take far fewer pick 6's than before, and then only when I see a reasonable chance to catch it. Any pick 6 with 4 or more handicap fields and I stay away. When I do take one, its when I see a card with a few legs where I can safely go short, and elsewhere I look for trouble with a field or two. I put in stable companions frequently, even if their form is inferior.
I take more jackpots than I used to, and have had fun with the bipot. My favourite exotic remains the PA, and so I spend more there.
I still spend the same in total, but much less on the pick 6 than before.
