well four years later we as South Africa are not really seeing the results of all the money we spent and are poorer for the roads built(but I do love them) and you'd at least expect our National Soccer team to be improving after the 4 year build up but they've gone backwards faster than the rand!!

Totally agree with you Mr. H - no one has seen the benefit of the stadiums we built for the World Cup
At present, if we look as the roads and infrastructure, no one would believe we hosted the world cup 4 years ago - we really gone backwards

South Africa is not immune to financial disaster after holding a world cup or a city holding the Olympics. Look at Athens. The main stadium has weeds growing out if it, Barcelona took 12 years to get the money back, Atlanta even longer. Sydney has been a success. They use all the facilities. The pay backs have been sorted out so the London stadium will now be used by West Ham the season after the next. IMO SA should not have built so many new stadia. Durban and CT should have been played at the rugby stadiums. PE could have held matches at Boet Erasmus. Brazil will be a disaster for the poor. Germany used clubs stadiums which they upgraded prior to the 2006 WC. These stadiums are obviously used all the time. Same with South Korea and Japan they use them for football and baseball weekly.

Correct CnC - stadiums are now like white elephants - will they ever recover the cost incurred?

with the $ at that price the tickets are out of range for most - Perhaps better to fence them off and use them as kraals - save us a great deal when the next Pres decides he wants to go Nkandla Style

PE needed a new stadium and in the scheme of things it isn't a total disaster. Moving forwards EP are back in the Curry Cup and Super 15.
There was a massive article in the Herald yesterday about the "World Cup FIFA Legacy". In fairness to FIFA the problems are due to a lack of local management afterwards. We even have new football pitches being used by goats and cattle.
The Cape Town stadium should never have been built but FIFA quite rightly condemned Kings Park which is steeper than Mount Everest.
If Brazil keep winning the protests will be put on ice.
