Firstly, all the best and wish you all the luck going in achieving your goals.

Don, I must be honest and say I think the challenge that lies ahead is a very difficult one and I am not sure how much of what follows directly affects what you personally hope to achieve. But, as an overall plan, I fear the approach may be starting in the wrong place.

The fact is, or at least seems to be, that there are very few happy punters about at the moment and that SA racing has some major issues. If these issues are not dealt with first then all you are likely to be doing is attracting people to something that they will soon become disillusioned with. I suspect, like many, punting for me, and horses for others, seems to be in my blood, a part of my life but just reading the pages here shows how many are unhappy with the state of the game in so many ways. I don't want to go through them all but TV presentation, state of the tracks, transparency, manipulation of odds, lack of communication etc are but a few recent examples.

Surely, these issues have to be resolved first. If you make the current fan base "happy" then you have a solid start point. In my younger years lol, being invited to a party always used to sound great but, when I arrived at the party and the stereo was broken, there were few people there all with unsmiling faces etc etc then I left again pretty darn quick! Why would racing be any different? People want to join something that is in full flow with everyone already there having a wicked time! lol

I have always said that though some of us here moan a lot, our moans are well-intentioned. People should listen, communicate and discuss and resolve these issues first. Attract someone new to the game and they will probably be reading ABC soon enough and all your positive talk will be replaced by a lot of reading of the negative aspects. This is not a criticism of clanners as imo much of what they complain about is correct, it is just another request that people in charge man up, face up to their failings, past and present, and work with everyone to make this a "happy" game. To me, that is absolutely fundamental in attracting new faces.

Bet the race favorite to show (comes in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd), the favorite pays off 67% of the time.

Showing Donkeys to bet like asses

I have to be honest..I own a lot of horses for a long time now..I try manage them myself and have only once in all these years ever been told to be at the races by Dean Alexander all the way at the Vaal as a horse of mine was racing and he told me it would win at around 6/1 and him and Gary wanted me there..he would not take no as an answer. The horse dully won with Striker my favourite jockey aboard by around 5 lengths. They stayed with me the whole time, we had a congratulatory drink and then went home.

Unfortunately after that I realized this game is full of bullshitters, with very very few people in it of substance. I have to say I really like the Phum and Gold Circle guys very much but I do understand now what they have to work with and it cannot be easy. At least now I have a couple of top trainers which I do mention regularly on fb and they know who they are..the rest, well lets not go there.

Good luck to racing I personally would try get the foundation right before I went out with fancy ad campaigns etc to draw crowds or upgrade the sport.

Absolutely our focus as well and we will be lobbying for attention to timeous and valid information delivery, transparency etc etc! very aware of racing's reputation and what has been tried before and why it has failed. Our team has key members who I am not going to mention in this post, who have campaigned for years tirelessly and to much annoyance about this very thing.
The unified group and brand is focussing on getting the delivery and communication channels right in the first phase though, as well as hospitality deliverance that is good and consistent - it is very poor as you know. There are different levels of stakeholders - virgin market (first attention), novices - big race day punters, professionals. And then there are the ones that the industry lost that need to be woo'd back (hardest group needs the most work).

Why is there a tab "laying a bet" when the whole page explains how to place a bet?

One thing that is on going on the forum ,and has been since I have participated, is this debate about positive and negative.
It may come as a surprise but I tend to notice more of the negative.................LOL
I do however love racing and would be delighted to have more things to be positive about so I am going to ask for help from my fellow clanners.

Please list all the achievements of the local racing operators, since corporatisation, that we can be positive about. They must NOT be promises, yet to be fulfilled(there's lots of those). Lets not follow the trend of labelling achievement prematurely, just as we often do with horses after a maiden win. The scoresheet is too often : EFFORT-100% / Skill-FA!
Also,not included is the fantastic achievements of our horses, trainers and jockeys overseas..........that is due to private effort and achievement and IMO world class.

I hope the list is lengthy and I have been missing the upside!

Negative or positive we need comments to keep coming on this site

I know on the face of it it looks like every build up to the July or the MET role out a few models and dress them like tits and call it fashion.

these campaigns do attract attention ,but i would like to see them spending more attention on next Fridays Greyville meeting or Kenilworth in 3 weeks time.

Remember this is only the launch and if there was not big plans for moving forward it would not have been signed off
