Well I guess I am a knocker.
Act of War IMO opinion ran its last 3 runs to approx. the same rating ..............111
The clue for me is Kingvoldt (as a line) for the ratings........at 113????? ,we are suggesting that it is one of the better 3 yr olds in the world..................can't see it.
There is also an alternate view to Harry's Son...........Yes he won a group1, but he has won 3 races in total ,and the second horse in each case is STILL a maiden as we post!!!!!
(I think that the ratings are being influenced by MLJet,who I think we will find ,has not trained on????)
(The group 1 that Harry's Son won has produced only 2 winners .........himself and Light the Lights ,who won in PE)
I think Act of War may turn out to be much better than rated, but like the stable did with Variety Club, his development will be paced!

Cannot see how ratings arrived at...
I'd put Act of War at max 113, Harry's Son at +-109 (ran slightly below ability - best about a 111) and Kingvoldt at +-108...
Kingvoldt for me is the line horse as +-2 lengths behind in last two runs to Act of War so running to rating...

if act of war ran in a handicap in December over 1600 he would be a net 105 after 12 pounds gets taken off for wfa allowance...captain America is a net 105 so they would meet at levels who would you back?legislate is a net 117 so would give aow a full 6kg in a handicap over a mile so who would you back?

How tbese MR's can be allocated to reflect ability when only assessed by only racing against their peers is beyond me. If I get a handicap rating equal to that of Gerry Baker (current Springbok bowls player) for competing only in my small club ...does that make me as good as him?? Even if I win all my games by many shots?

AOW should remain a 113 and they should drop Harry's Son to a 109, the 3rd horse Kingvoldt raced off a 107 so that what the ratings should remain. The handicappers simply won't admit that HS is not a 114!!

So Zambezi River beats Coniston (a 1 time winner) a short head and gets 11 points for it, Coniston on the other hand beats multiple winners, ML Jet, Charles Lynton and Balance Sheet hands down and gets off scot free...The other 1 time winner Imperil Gold went into the race rated 88 2KG's inferior to Coniston and emerges from it still a 1 time winner but now 5KG's Superior in the ratings after beating Coniston by under a length...You are right Pirates, gotta love this system

I also agree that Kingvoldt should be the line horse.
Why?
1. At zero pounds margin of error there is no clear cut line horse.
2. At a one pound margin of error Brutal Force is the potential line horse sharing with two others who all ran to their rating.
3. At a two pound margin of error Balance Sheet is the potential line horse sharing with four others who all ran to their rating.
4. At a three pound margin of error Kingvoldt is the potential line horse sharing with five others who all ran to their rating. Kingvoldt, to me, seems to be the most credible.
So Act Of War = 111 or 113
Harry's Son = 107
Kingvoldt = 107
Imperial Gold =100
Zambezi River = 99
This of course assumes that the ratings previous to the Guineas were indeed correct!

Re: new m. ratings for top 5 finishers in the guineas
10 years 5 months agotitch 2 things firstly the restrictions were put in place by your heroes NOT BY THE 3 handicapers and secondly stop sounding like certain tellytrack presenters who believe that how many races a horse wins is the true reflection of a horses abilityTitch wrote: So Zambezi River beats Coniston (a 1 time winner) a short head and gets 11 points for it, Coniston on the other hand beats multiple winners, ML Jet, Charles Lynton and Balance Sheet hands down and gets off scot free...The other 1 time winner Imperil Gold went into the race rated 88 2KG's inferior to Coniston and emerges from it still a 1 time winner but now 5KG's Superior in the ratings after beating Coniston by under a length...You are right Pirates, gotta love this system

I agree pretty much ,except that I cannot see how Kingvoldt has yet earned a 108 ?????
there is always an element of subjectivity on ratings so, as they say, as long as mine work for me!
Bearing in mind ,as Pirates says ,Act of War is probably a few lengths better than a 111 but IMO has not earned it yet.................one of the biggest reason for MR having to be reduced so consistently is perception over reality!!!!!!
