The "guarantee" comes from all the other horses. So their dividends are reduced.

thanks...i.e....the tote is reducing your winnings...to pay a minimum dividend...but their takeout remains the same...real value....

Yes, exactly. By having a strategy of backing, say, the 2nd favourite to place on the Tote when a hot favourite is running will probably be very costly in the long run.

Greyville 2nd Jan
Race 1 MISS PIUS (SP 7/2)
Tote Win R5.20
Race 2 NATIONAL APPROVAL (SP 13/20)
Tote Win R2.60
Race 3 ICE PACK (SP 11/10)
Tote Win R2.20
Race 4 ART DECO (SP 15/20)
Tote Win R1.80
Race 5 SUPREME POWER (SP 9/2)
Tote Win R6.60
Race 6 BEEWITHMEE (SP 15/2)
Tote Win R10.40
Race 7 SAME JURISDICTION (SP 9/10)
Tote Win R1.70
Race 8 DANISH ZEALOT (SP 6/1)
Tote Win R7.80
Due to the co-mingling of the Totes with France all the win pools were around R1m and there can be no argument that the win value was with the Tote, so whoever supports the open bet and says its good for the punter should have a rethink a strong tote will ALWAYS be better value ...

10 years 5 months agotell me titch why don't you take the AVERAGE PRICE TRADED instead of the starting price for bookmakers or do you think that every punter that bets with bookmakers takes starting prices? YOU HAVE TO HAVE ROCKS IN YOUR HEAD IF YOU HAVE A WIN aND PLACE BET ON THE TOTE AND YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE RETURN IS UNTIL AFTER THE RACE.... whoever thinks that bigger win and place pools mean a bigger return also has shit for brains and presenters who say this shit on television must be saying it either under duress or have fcukall clue how the betting market works,,how presenters can gloat about tote value well before the race is off should also go on a course on HOW THE BETTING WORKS ...it is a fcuking disgrace the crap I have to listen toTitch wrote: Greyville 2nd Jan

Simple Pirates because the tote dividends that are quoted are , by nature SP prices??? how else would you propose a comparison be made???
and should Hong Kong and Singapore racing go on the same course as the one you propose for our local presenters??? have all their punters been taking "no Value" bets for years as well???

Our tote takeout is too high.
In Hong Kong when they reduced takeout to 15.7%, turnover amounts
increased significantly.

Titch prices available
You start compairing tote win dividends with starting prices when so much better value was available with all bookmakers at some point
Remember everyone has to take the tote final dividend

Same Jurisdiction was available at 15/10 -16/10 for at least 48 hours in that time 100's of thousand Rand could have been taken on her
If 100's of thousand rand had been placed on her on the tote the only value would be on the losers
