5.2 Million - do people hate their money so much?

I see on the Sporting Post some farmer has paid 5.2 Million for a horse. All I can say is either the brandy was good or this guy doesn't have the first idea. I wonder if he has worked out how many races this horse must win just to break even :whistle: :whistle:

I was thinking that I would love to boost my ego, so I thought of asking for ONE percent of this horse. If the guy agreed I could have my name in the racecard. Imagine how thrilled I would be after forking out R52000 plus Vat and the horse enters and wins a Maiden Juvenile race next season in the Bass yard. My takeout for the win would be R406.25 before deductions :lol: :lol: :lol:

What an investment.

Dont worry about the buyer.. he has made more out of exotic game and the likes than most breeders in this country.

Maybe the owner has the Breeders Cup, Dubai World Cup or the Arc in mind.. Lol

All relative, fact is the buyer probably earned that in interest alone while he slept last night, so even if the horse never sees a race course it would not make any difference whats so ever...obscene but true.

Money was no object when the super-rich faced off on Friday night in a challenge to buy Africa’s biggest buffalo cow.

But in the end, Cyril Ramaphosa was beaten by Jaco Troskie, son of Bloemfontein film ­magnate Boet Troskie, who paid a record R20 million for the buffalo cow – and her calf – at a game auction near Rustenburg.

Ramaphosa bid up to R19.5 million, but ­decided to call it a day at that point.

Earlier, as the figure approached R10 million, most of the bidders, who arrived in flashy cars and as many as 10 helicopters, started to quit.

That left only three big guns – Ramaphosa, Troskie and Peter Bellingham, who paid a record R18 million for a buffalo bull called ­Senatla last year.

Approximately 2 000 onlookers and prospective buyers burst into applause when the bidding reached the R18 million mark.

But in the end, with a single, almost unobtrusive, ­gesture, Troskie indicated he would raise ­Ramaphosa’s bid by another half a million rand. Deal done.

Now he is the proud owner of the biggest buffalo cow in captivity anywhere in the world, and her calf.

Seller Piet du Toit burst into tears when the auctioneer’s hammer came down.

“I put up for sale the animal with the best genes and hoped for the best, but this exceeds my wildest expectations,” Du Toit said.

The auction was held on Du Toit’s farm and about 250 animals were sold.

exactly ,you cant take it with you ota there no banks or shops where you going...quite frankly I think he underpaid for a horse who has a stallions pedigree,,,by dynasty out of a full sister to the champion racehorse and sire silvano if he was sold overseas would have got 3 times the price

But if the international borders are re opened prices like this will become normal
And maybe one of the reasons that the Europeans don't want them open .

The guy seemed to enter the bidding quite late so it looks like it's been a plan to buy at all costs
