You are two really passionate guys and i admire both for it,so i'm not taking sides here

I mostly bet with bookies because of the superior service they provide
I bet on the tote what i can't get on with the bookies

The bookies are afraid to lay certain bets, the tote not!
The bookies gives you something back, the tote not!

I now bet with 5 different bookies plus the tote, why?

Cos i'm hard to please :P

Wow Titch, seems that Pirates hit a nerve.

I know that you are a big advocate of supporting the tote and I share your sentiment as I believe that it is better for racing as a whole considering the funding requirements to keep the sport going.

The greed thing is pretty universal though and is definitely not restricted to bookmakers. I would love to support the tote unconditionally but truth be told they are doing little to convince me that they have truly got racing's interest at heart first and foremost.

Very little is done to promote local racing to a new and younger generation and the " Racing, it's a Rush" campaign lacks conviction that throws doubt on the credibility of the overall campaign. If the operator allocated a meaningful marketing budget to local racing they will be seen to be fulfilling the caretaker role that they were entrusted with.

Unfortunately the constant singular emphasis on pushing turnover with zero consideration for the long term well being of local racing brings the greed aspect to light in a way that makes bookmakers look like angels.

There is no attempt to introduce anything creative or innovative as far as reaching out to a new customer base as it would cost money and would require real dedication and commitment to establish and as such is seen to be to onerous an effort.

Start setting meaningful and measurable annual customer growth targets for racing to force employees into action. Those that are not up to it will be pushed out and those that remain will become more innovative and resourceful as there would be no where to hide for non-performers. Start breeding excellence in every aspect of the business to live up to the company motto.

I have never had a marketing position where challenging targets were not part of the job and it brings the best out of the team responsible for achieving the set goals. Introduce a bonus system that rewards achievers heavily for meeting measurable key objectives and make it the number one priority in everything that the company does.

The operator has many knowledgeable employees but knowledge without focus and dedication becomes a hurdle level for progress.

It's time for the operator to show a real commitment towards racing.
