I have a little time before the controversy at Fairview so here are my early thoughts.
1) Seems like the money is for 1 horse and I think he can go close. Sovereign Mint has to have a solid chance to win this. There are many dangers so bank this one and fill up at the back.
2) Why can't Speedy Suzy beat Entisaar again? They meet on level terms again and with the sticky going last time, Speedy Suzy wasn't stopping enough for me to think that she won't go the extra 60 meters? Varumba is the unknown and she may well beat both but I'm going with the exposed stakes form and I make SS a nice bet on the day. The only unknown might be Khaleesi. Not sure if she is fancied or not.
3) On official ratings, Tamanee should murder this field but I'm not convinced. I'm worried about the 1 1/4 mile and I'm worried about her heavy schedule. She has been on the boil now for a long time and this could be one run too much for a 3 year old against hard knocking older fillies and mares? i think Erin (in form Ferraris yard) could have an EW shout.
4) Money in bucket loads for Rafeef which has to be respected. My selection though is Redcarpet Captain. I have found him to be super impressive in both of his wins and the extra ground will suit him. The problem is now his stable companion is also being supported and he is drifting like a barge.......what is going on in this race? Could be one to just enjoy as a spectacle.
5) Toughest race on the card by far. Anything bar maybe 2 or 3 can win. I hope uncle Goose can win it with Trip Tease as he deserves this race but I think it is going to be tough. The fillies are very good especially Alboran Sea. She runs well fresh and could have the beating of these. Carry on Alice is very good, Captain of All comes in off a sparkling last win and even Willow Magic could bounce back to his best and make these run with big race Ray Day in the saddle. Get out your pins and good luck!
6) If Siren's Call stays, she wins!!! All the best PeterD, you are a gentleman and a scholar.
7) Majmu has some questions to answer. She may be the best horse in SAF but she is still to prove it and at odds on here, you would have to be silly to back her. I would much rather go for one of the older, battle hardened, proven horses such as Wylie Hall or Tellina. LTK could bounce back. If Majmu wins this she may well be the best we have seen in a long time......time will tell.
8 ) The betting is all wrong in this one as no ways can Ertijaal be favorite after the classic run. I still think he will win mind you but not at that price. I think French Navy is a very real threat as is Amsterdam although I don't like the stable change. I'm no Azzie fan, that's for sure! I really liked Cool Chardonnay for the race but it is scratched unfortunately. Legal Eagle could get a blow in and Prince of Orange could run into the placings!
9) Lazer Star should be the best bet on the card........
10) Kingston Mines has turned into one of the better stayers in the country (not that it is too hard to do). He has to have a chance but I fancy Coby to run a big race here. She will finally now be fit, she has Marcus up and she will LOVE the extra here. Also Alexander loves winning the Gold Bowl with fillies...Mosszao and Lady of the Turf I believe?
Enjoy the day and Happy punting!

Big storm in Alberton around 1:00 and still drizzling. Hopefully conditions will be good tomorrow.

If Entisaar jumps on terms, she wins. Delpech won't want Speedy Suzy to get too far ahead, so he may apply pressure on SS from the get-go - a case of who folds under pressure, first. If the going does come up slighty sticky, from an inside draw, Entisaar will have to break on terms.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Rember King's Gambit? Raining steadily today so I expect the Derby and Oaks will be testing in the extreme. If you don't see 2000m properly this 2400m will be out of reach. I think that horses setting pace will be the order of the day. If you come around the bend and you are within 4 lengths of the pace you have a ticket. Going to be difficult to run on if you have lengths to make up. King's Gambit was a son of Silvano and so is DANTE'S LEGACY(My place suggestion for this race) I do however think that from the draw, and if he is just off the pace, ERTIJAAL is the horse to beat. He was badly drawn last time - I'm not sure if he gets 2450m but De Kock would have that sorted so I think the odds are in his favor.
