I understand blind patriotism but I liken tourneys to racing. You own a good horse that is out of form and it is in the July against a super hot Fav - Are you going to do your money just out of loyalty? I think not.
I personally will be trying not to back against the Boks but purely on punting there may well be matches where you can take a position against them. I, because I'm more heart than head re rugby, will sit out if I think they can lose but I will not be offended by someone that backs against them.
Supporting is one thing but punting is another.

Re: COME ON Believe in the BOK
9 years 11 months agothe world cup rugby comes along once every 4 years and im sure we have all seen what joy the 95 and 07 wins did for the people of this country and to this day still does but if winning a few rand is so important to some people that it makes them pleased if the boks lose to whoever they have backed then so be it..mr hawaii wrote:Over the Air wrote: 100% my moneys on the All Blacks.

But in reality if you put R1 million rand on them or R1 million on Japan for example, NOTHING you nor I can do can change the outcome of the matches. Unless the whole country turns against them, which you know will never happen, backing(supporting) another team cannot ever change they way the team performs on the field. That idea is more a guilt feeling of traitor-ship that stems from patriotic rhetoric that we have been exposed to for years(I admit I am guilty of this and actually don't mind it that much especially as I enjoy going to pubs for these matches and it's great to feel part of something bigger)

mr h I have to disagree with you I have watched enough sport in my time that public support has made a huge difference to the player or team that is being supported..and this support has been confirmed by the players afterwards..when we won the world cup in 95 ask the all blacks what a difference mr mandela and 48 million people made to the boks that day..

I am behind Pirates here. I NEVER want to be happy that the Springboks( or any South African( and yes that includes Bafana Bafana)team) gets beaten. For my couple of hundred rand that will not make a difference to my life, I would feel bad and a traitor! It cost me nice money in our Superbru league for supporting the Sharks completely against all comers until they were out the competition. I ended up losing by 1 point but happy that I stuck with them.

All this about not wanting the Boks not to win the World Cup is garbage. I for one definitely want them to win it, but I cannot see it happening. Why build yourself into a frenzy believing that they will win. The come down will hurt even more. I know it's an old tune of mine but with Meyer in charge we have little or no chance. He does not think out of the box. He is reactive. In this game you have to be proactive, two not one step ahead of your opponent. The opposition coaching staff read him like a book. The opposition hold back on their team selection until after Meyer announces his, which is always, without fail, on the Wednesday mid morning before a Saturday match. They also know, barring injuries, when he will be making his subs during the match. No matter what the situation of the match, where the play is, he will make his subs. Case in point, we have an attacking scrum on the AB 5 metre line and he withdrew not one but two of the front row at the same time. Needless to say we lost that scrum and with that the match. Meyer has made the same tactical mistakes time and time again so what's going to change in the WC?

9 years 11 months agoif I do back another horse I will always back her horse as well but I really cant see what that has to do with the topic at hand.Over the Air wrote:pirates wrote:the world cup rugby comes along once every 4 years and im sure we have all seen what joy the 95 and 07 wins did for the people of this country and to this day still does but if winning a few rand is so important to some people that it makes them pleased if the boks lose to whoever they have backed then so be it..mr hawaii wrote:Over the Air wrote: 100% my moneys on the All Blacks.
