my last post on this topic words from a fellow south African..sport has the power to change the world..it has the power to inspire.it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.it speaks to youth in a language they understand.sport can create hope where there once was despair.it is more powerful than government in breaking down racial barriers..cheers

Look how badly some of us react when banter goes wrong on abc, i know ive felt shite with somethings posted about people i like etc..

If you think that the boks don`t get put under pressure by negative AND positive posts /tweets/statuses... then you are way off the mark..

As for support, what's interesting here in Mthatha (was Umtata to you ol' timers) is how many of the local blacks support the Boks. Often they put us whiteys to shame for our faint hearts.

It only takes one word in the right place to gee up a team. Who remembers the 438 ODI cricket game (it wasn't THAT long ago!) when the Proteas faced the might of Australia, in their days of pomp and glory, Gilchrist, Ponting, et al., and a world record total of 434 runs to win the 5th game of the series? Apparently at the end of the Aus innings the guys were in the change room, feeling all despondent, when Mr Straight-Face himself, Kallis, said something along the lines of, "I think they are about 10 runs short" and everyone cracked up. But they also went out and overtook the total with one wicket and one ball left - no naughty jokes, please, guys! That's all it took to set them on their feet again.
