So a trainer is able to manipulate an advantage for one of his horses by entering (first entries were free) another horse (with the intention of scratching him later)

According to the race conditions, 'there will be NO change to the weights after the Final Field has been issued'.

For the purposes of this discussion, I'm going to assume that Bouclette Top will not be among the final list of entries (at R11,400).

So IF Legal Eagle remains a runner:
Legal Eagle (120) 60 kg's
French Navy (113) 56.5 kg's

Assuming a minimum weight of 52 kg's this would mean that any runner below 104 would come in under sufferance.

IF Legal Eagle is scratched before 18 Nov (date of final field announcement), I assume the weights will be raised so that French Navy will carry top weight of 60 kg's:

French Navy (113) 60 kg's

and assuming the minimum weight is fixed at 52 kg's this means that any runner below MR 97 would come in under sufferance.......

IF however Legal Eagle is scratched after 18 Nov (date of final field announcement), then French Magic would carry top weight - allocated as follows:

French Navy (113) 56.5 kg's

In this case, assuming a minimum weight of 52 kg's this would mean that any runner below 104 would come in under sufferance.

So quite a few more runners would race under sufferance if LE is scratched after 18 Nov than would be the case if he was scratched before 18 Nov - does not seem fair somehow

Legal Eagle scratched and Deputy Jud most likely soon to follow.
Time for us all to re-study the race.

Happy are those who got 25/1 on Master Sabina now available at 14s. MS knows the course n distance n class level, will probably be ridden by GL who knows how to win this race. at 105 will carry approx 55-56kg. a good bet is a high reward low risk bet like MS....

TWO ace runners from South African stables have joined Mike de Kock’s string for the Dubai International Racing Carnival in 2016.

Liquid Mercury is a four-year-old grey gelding by Trippi raised at Drakenstein Stud. Formerly in the care of Joey Ramsden, he’s won five of 11 starts including the Gr3 Cape Winter Derby. He was also placed in the Gr1 Cape Derby – third to another Dubai-bound, Ertijaal.
One of the leading runners of his generation, six-year-old Maine Chance-bred Tellina has only four wins to show from 25 runs, but the Silvano gelding is a quality type with a Gr2 Guineas and the Gr3 Wolf Power Handicap to his name. He’s showed his mettle against the best for trainer Geoff Woodruff and has been unlucky at times, getting places in among others, the Durban July (3rd and 4th in respective years); and the J&B Met (4th).

Mike said: “Liquid Mercury is a smart sort. He was purchased for the stable from Joey Ramsden’s yard by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, while the well-performed Tellina was given to us for this campaign by Dr Andreas Jacobs.”

The pair form part of a small De Kock contingent presently in Mauritius and due to depart for Newmarket, UK, en route to Dubai on 3 November 2015.

It was always likely LE would be a met runner rather than a Summer cup one. French navy did run a good prep and will be a big runner despite top weight.

I agree with Tarry about the top weight in group 1 races should be set and not be aimed at accommodating bottom weights . I reckon 1/2 the reason for adjusting the weight up was because If a large proportion of the field was under sufferance most of the top jocks couldnt make the weights for these. :P those chubbies lol
