KZN trainers are not happy
9 years 7 months ago
Seemingly .....
Grumbles I'm hearing is they feel JHB Raiders are taking advantage of Sand horses running on the poly from their Turf ratings
Talk of strikes , or not nominating etc
What can be down to solve the issue ?
Imo KZN form is the weakest in the country and that is more of a reason why the raiders are " stealing " their stakes
Thoughts ?
Ps you don't hear UK and Ireland trainers moaning about raiders running from grass to poly etc

I'd be careful to strike as the Gauteng horses can fill a meeting easily if needs be

You gotta ask yourself why is there so much rubbish poly racing in this country... Good luck to those who take the stakes using whatever means they can.. As long as the dividends are paid by Phum who gives a f... Where they race??

Kiss Me Hardy,Jade Vine,Wishful Heart and Super Guppy were slung in according to the sand/turf discrepancies the other day.
Jade Vine ran a dirty 4th.
Wishful Heart managed to win,by a sh,with a rating of 63 as opposed to it's sand rating of 83.
What's the problem? It's not like the handicappers are getting it wrong.
Heard they trying to squeeze the Kannemeyer satellite yard too.Not happy that he's having so many winners on the poly.
Biggest bunch of whingers ever.

KZN form and trainers ( with very few exceptions ) have to be the worst of the "major" centres. If you peruse Wishful Hearts race, the horse ran to his turf and not his sand rating. Like most things, KZN trainers dont seem to understand ratings either! It is a free country, what exactly is St John Gray and other Joburg trainers expected to do with horses that performed on the Vaal Sand? Racing Kimberley for half stakes does not make sense. PE poly too far and stakes lower than Durban. Run of the mill trainers like Brian Wiid ( no disrespect intended in any way ) have been cleaning up against the KZN run of the mill horses. Expect many more Gauteng trainers to raid so to all the cry baby whingers out there, get used to it.

Oscar the dividends are actually paid by Gold Circle when they race in KZN.

Racing in SA and Globally,is experiencing very strong support from really wealthy Owners. The very well bred horses are very expensive and are , therefore, almost unobtainable to the "normal" Owners. Yes, horses do not run on paper and Yes, horses do not know their price and Yes again, there are inexpensive horses that go to the tops. In Gauteng, racing is very competitive and we always face the results of MDK and Sean Tarry ' s buying sprees. Not only do they have large numbers in their strings, but these large numbers are very well bred, are superb specimens and are also expensive horses.
In spite of racing being so tough up here in Gauteng, the doors are open to all who want to race here. Gauteng Trainers don't complain about this and get on with their jobs.
The truth is that we must never run livery yards. We must work very hard to be competitive. We have to run our horses and when they are not up to scratch, we must move them on. This is the only way to keep Owners in racing. The worst thing that we can do as Trainers is to bullshit Owners into keeping horses in Training that are not competitive or have no potential.
By wailing and moaning, KZN Trainers are openly admitting that they are not competitive. What they are saying is, "we cannot keep up, our strings are not good enough, so please give us special conditions"
And as we all know, mediocrity will not serve our industry well. Protectionism and the need for it proves only one thing - those requesting it have admitted defeat.
We all need to strive to beat the big Trainers no matter how difficult that is. We must have a strategy to improve the quality of our strings, to find competitive horses. If that were our motivation, we would not be wailing and demanding protection. We would just be getting on with the job.
