what is going on with Greyville Poly
9 years 6 months ago - 9 years 6 months ago
In the last couple of weeks/months there's been an increase of strange results from this track. I'm wondering if perhaps the surface starting to wear out or something else is going on with the track.
a few months ago it used to be one of the most consistent surfaces but lately anything goes. anybody noticed ?

Bookies ?
They only take wagers, strange results come from other reasons

I agree100%, but I am not sure it isn't a bit more generalised .......................My records show that between Sept and November EVERY year ,results become far more unpredictable throughout the country!
I am not sure ,but to date,my feeling is that innoculations are the main contributor.
I did try and consider evidence whether it was perhaps change of season surface changes ,prepping for seasons and various other possibilities (some of which may of course, contribute)
It is the reason I suggested some time ago that I believe that punters should be educated in the effect of innoculations and then be advised of the dates of innoculations ,.....................(they show dates of gelding, blinkers ,alumites etc which affect form, in Computaform.)
Just on this point ,I believe that Computaform failed in their quest to provide the very best info.........................the most useful column they could ever provide would be the official rating of every run ...............the handicappers have the records and it would be a piece of cake!(Sporting Post already provide their ratings and it is useful ,but a comparison with the official ones would be invaluable)
Many patterns and answers could be seen at a glance.................the only reason I can think of for not providing that info would be embarrassment of not taking any regulatory notice of erratic formlines!

In my opinion
A lot of the lower division horses go to the farm for a rest and etc in the Kzn winter season (champions season) and September/November time they start racing again... some horses take a few runs to find their form while others find their form straight after their break and some horses run better after they had a bit of a break from racing
Hence we get these type of results this time of the year
I might be wrong but this is just my opinion

Do you not think it might have something to do with a lot of horses coming in from Vaal sand closure. Their turf MR aren't as high as possibly could be, as they were better performers on sand so didn't run to much on turf. This leaves them well in at the weights against horses who are running to a realistic MR?

great point Rob, in cape town for example the winter/summer - dbnv/kenw switch causes a lot of unpredictable results during this time of the year....

As a matter of interest ,have a look at how many of these recent "shock" results were bounce backs from much higher MR's !!!!!!
The MR system may have benefits to connections but has IMO been the worst thing that ever happened to form study,as punters are often trying to guess when "lack of form discounts" will come back and bite!

Without wanting to offend owners who's horses may have run between (say) 1st August and a meeting or two ago, racing is very thin this time of year to the extent that in some races you have 3, 4 and even 5 year old maidens running, which is an indication of the strength around at that time of year. The better three year olds and older horses for that matter are just about to make their seasonal debuts and the ones which are running are relatively unexposed and do get rolled by other three year olds and or older horse with worse exposed form, but the penny has dropped (on race day) and arrives at any price.
I don't believe the track has anything to do with it, after all, they all running on the same track, not like the winner ran on the turf all alone.
Just my opinion.

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

The standard of horses running in KZN is way below Gauteng - How else will a 6 yr old, (rated 32-45) maiden get 9 runs in Maiden company this year - Bad horses make for bad results
BUURRN - look at this form
You cannot blame the owner and trainer as they have a right to see their horse run but how bad must the nominations be if the horse can get into a race.

Poly racing at Lingfield, Wolves etc and you will always get a few turning up at big odds, Kempton included, although draw bias is a bigger factor in the Uk tracks.
Last night in the 1st race at Greyville and the Whitehead/Forbes runner was carded with no.15 draw over 1400mts and won well.
