The glory days thread

I'm interested in hearing stories of epic comebacks and big wins.
I'll start,on Friday the fourth I closed what woulda been a 16k quad (but the dead heat (the one the judges instantly decided without much thought lol, caused it to be chopped to 8k - still nice off a r600 outlay).
Then the very next day at Turffontein I closed an 11k treble (all tarry/khumalo rides), I don't think I'll ever forget Intergalactica arriving in the last race of the day. Although it made me late for work watching it, with such a nice score the previous day and a potential second one coming I didn't care bout my stupid part time job (I did still show up, 40 mins late , after being paid out by the bookie tho lol).
When Intergallactica arrived, I was ecstatic, I was screaming and shouting and fist pumping. I had laid the ticket with a live bookmaker and I was making excuses to my boss whilst waiting for the race to clear and for the bookmaker to pay me out.
Man few things have felt so sweet as bearly having enough pocket-space to put all the cash I'd won.
I was on a full on drug-like high the whole night at work from the win and through the drinks afterwards, smiling from ear to ear. That weekend came hot on the heels of quite a severe losing streak and I consider it one of my best come-backs.
I only got on a 12/1 treble that Monday to for the r200 that was in my betting account but had 1k in my wallet I wanted to bet on it through a bookie but was prevented from doing so due to time constraints and lunch plans. Felt pretty sick missing out on that but what can you do, and technically I didn't really miss out lol.
I thought I create this this to highlight why we punt, for the wins! And to hear similar stories of comebacks from losing streaks and heaters. Also to illustrate that losing streaks can change at any stage which is why it's important not to obsess and chase losses but just be patient and responsible and eventually the loss will become insignificant (win or lose).
I have pretty much been losing since then (the odd good day but nothing remarkable), but I have to say the feelings from that weekend will probably live with me forever. I haven't been punting too long (a few years) but I can see it probably being a life-long relationship , for better or worse.

2004 season,Chelsea had won the title the week before at Bolton and the only outfield player who hadn't scored was Claude Makelele.
Next home game was Charlton and I had a sneaky feeling if we got a penalty,Claude would take it.Ladbrokes were the onsite bookies at The Bridge and were 50/1 first and 50/1 last goal.I had a pony on each and it was a drab game, but in the 90th minute we was awarded a penalty.Sure enough,Claude stepped up and hit the ball straight at the keeper.Keeper parried it and it came back out and Claude put the rebound in the net.
Still see it now.

Not so much "glory" but one I will never forget...
Took a 5 horse atc (wins) in Mauritius....
1st leg - Dead heat - money halved
2nd leg - odds on scratched my horse won 40% deduction
3rd leg- 2nd fav scratched my horse won 20% deduction
4th leg- you guessed it fav scratched 30% deduction
5th leg - dead heat - halved money again....
Never caught a 5 horse atc again where I almost owed the bookie money

That must have been amazing. Sometimes you just have to disregard price and go with your gut I think.

Two stories from many years ago...
Was on secondment in England...took a soccer multiple 405GPB / 3GPB at Ladbrokes...short story is that Fiorentina conceded two goals in injury time to draw for the bet to come in when they realised that Man Utd and Valencia had drawn their game for both those teams to progress to next round...
Won a PA at Greyville night meeting...took straight line 8 times for R16 with 2 horses in last leg...got back from playing tennis and checked results with 1 leg to go...none of the horses in first 6 legs won...came 2nd and 3rd in last leg...paid R562 so picked up about R9000...
I'm sure I've lost more than that in subsequent bets until the last two years when I've been more consistent in picking up lots of small bets...but we always remember the relatively big wins for a long time !!

Walked into a TAB in Perth Australia had $45 to my name. Needed hire a sleeper van to take me to Queensland (5 days drive) to try my hand at bananas. Horse called Manor House running 33/1 Back it because I had worked iin Manor House North London so saw it as an omen. Stuck $20 on and it won. Had enough to hire the van, that's not the end. As I said it's a long drive so it was drive jump in the back sleep wake up have a wash drive stop eat stick in fuel carry on driving. Stopped in Port Augusta in South Australia went into a tab saw a horse called Snake Bite stuck $10 on it won at 20/1 great paid around $23 on the tote. So I decided to book a room for the night had a great shower went into town for a meal and overheard two guys talking horse racing. So me been me I said hi and started chatting. They gave me two horses for a meeting at Ipswich the next day. Took a tote double and won a massive $1450 When a couple of days before you had $45 then all of a sudden you have over $1700 it's huge, Made my way to Cardwell in Queensland worked on a banana farm and had the time of my life
Fortunately I have had other wins, like the rest of us, but that was significant as it was much needed.

Seven years ago on 27th October my daughter Mikayla was born. She arrived and mum and baby was well. After spending almost the entire day with them at hospital I was on my way home filled with excitement yet also concerned that my wife was going to be on Maternity leave. The thought of the bond and car repayments plus the added bills and and got me concerned and I wanted to win a lot of cash. Drove pass home along the M4 and straight to Sibaya casino. It was around 9pm. I started playing roulette and began to lose and lose and just lose. I was down 22150 & left with my last fifty bucks. I was absolutely concerned and clueless as to what to do next. I took the fifty and asked the dealer to place it on the number 0. Zero landed and from there I went on to win a total of 192500 all on the table. I walked out of there at 6am. I went home showered and changed filled with excitement but also kinda scared to tell her what had happened. To this day I never told her what had happened and vowed to myself to never carry bank cards to those kinda places again.. It's not a horse racing episode however this was the moment that stood out for me. I have lost in the totes as well as casinos but never that large again. It was my biggest win thus far.
