I was unemployed in the early 90s (maybe late 80s)
I used to frequent the Bellville TOTE
With a bubget of +- R200 a day incl food money
I lost all on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Thursday i picked up bits and pieces up to the 6th race and won the Quinpot R1400+
Now if you know Bellville, there's always more loafers than gamblers, so i decided to not cash my winning Quinpot ticket.
The next day (Friday) i went to the New National with a lot of confidence in my pocket
Got there very early, ordered a breakfast and relaxed with my racecard
At that time there were no commingled pools and no fractional betting and it was before the Quartet as well

Anyway I caught a trifecta where i was one of only two winners and collected over R7800
Now this was a small fortune at the time esp for an unemployed guy like me
Yep, the pool was about R15800

That was the time i thought Bookmakers were for the Rich and Elite

Had a girlfriend in SA who always wanted my full attention (must be cause i am such a good bloke  ) she always had a moan whenever i said that i wanted to nip off down to the off tote at Kenilworth on the Racecourse Road. I took a trifecta boxed for R6 and a pick 6 and went back home. Listened to the results on Radio Good Hope and bang the trifecta arrived. Jumped in the car went down to the off tote. They used to put the results up on the side of the wall, hand written. So I checked and saw that it had paid R600 odd rand. Yes i thought that will shut her up. Stood in the que and the teller inserted my ticket. The payout showed up on the front of the machine in red. It said that it had paid R5630.00 Wow is that right i thought. Yes she paid me out. I then went back to the wall where they wrote the payouts and yes it was in fact R5630 I had not seen the 5. Lots of money back then and it shut the girlfriend up for a couple of weeks.

Lol, CnC, could only have been after your stint in the banana plantation.
We did the Pick n Pay head office next-door. It was nearing the end of our job and because of the very tight program we ended up working just about 24/7. At about 5pm one afternoon I asked my partner how much money he had on him, he said R40. I had a look in my wallet R70. I said lets go over to the Tote under the grandstand (overseas racing had just started) which we did. Anything to get away from the job. Well after playing numbers on quartets ( had no clue about hurdles etc) in all the various centres overseas, we walk out there at about 8pm with a tidy sum of money each. He had R17 000 and myself R27 000. All my guys (85 at that time) got KFC. They kept asking why we were smiling so much. They thought we had visited the local around the corner.

She told me she didn't like gamblers so lost her number not long after that, heard years later she got married and her husband won millions on the lotto

found it! lol :)

18 April 2012 Arlington - Race 6 - R65K - For Maidens and Winners F and M - 1600m

MISS SUNSHINE Grant Van Niekerk A 54.0 11 1 0.00 98.72 33/1 14/1
SURGING STAR Francois Herholdt A 54.5 9 2 0.25 98.77 33/1 13/1
ARE WE THERE YET Barend Vlooh A B 55.0 3 3 0.75 98.86 25/1 12/1

it were a little tight, the 4th...
FLAMING DAME Richard Fourie A 57.0 4 4 1.00 98.91 7/1 16/1

you can see from the price movements the massive "bonus" I got from being able to take the price with B365 at the opening prices. Did 40p unit stake and won just over £7200 on the trifecta, with the exactas and whatever else I may have had, I am pretty sure I ended up close to £8k up... happy day! :) As an aside, like many others, B365 have since closed me down

3rd and 4 April 2006

I was living in Buccleuch, Johannesburg. Was dead broke. Sold my townhouse, to pay off the bills and stay ahead.

At about 7pm I received an sms from my bank that that my account was accredited with R30000.00 odd, this being the proceeds of the sale. The amount deposited, did not seem right, but after recalculating ( taking into account the interest of / and the repayment of a bridging finance loan that i had taken) I realized it was very accurate.

R30000.00 was of no and very little help to me, as I had promised the car finance company and the credit card companies payment would be made shortly.

So I withdrew R5000.00 at the ATM, and went off to Monte Casino. At the William Nico Road offramp, I was watching the beggars and vendors, and thinking that these guys are worse off them me, and would do almost anything for some change.

On impulse i gave the first guy that come to my car a R100.00 note. Never done this before.

Got into Monte and headed to the Baccarat table, walked away from the table, Tuesday morning at 04:30 am with R101000.00 in my pocket. In the course of the day, I paid our R80000.00 to various banks, settled credit cards and brought to car up to date. I now had breathing space. Bought myself a couple of bottles of Johnny Black and a few steaks. Life was good.

Good times. I like to tip petrol attendants big (and tip well in general), but maybe giving big to a beggar or two will buy me some good form lol !

Did they give you one of those big envelopes when you cashed out ?

I need another heater. Life is so sweet when you running hot.

I'm hoping this is a start of another heater for me. it is a nice nice way to start the weekend at the very least.

for me these big trebles usually come in bunches. so imma lay a few more and hope to land one or 2 more (I banked 7k) , had quite a few other bets onto over 2.5 goals in that game as well and punted over 2.5 goals in the espanyol game straight up too.
you can imagine my anxiety when it was 45 mins in and goal less. but the goals came thick and fast after that.

Got plans tonight so I'mma lay a few more footie bets then forget about em and hope for the best.

hopefully I will have more glory days wins to report to you fellas in the not to distant future.
