Is there any reason why Van Niekerk does not ride Silver Mountain, he is the stable jockey after all - or is it one of those best left un-answered questions? One would think with Domeyer not riding in Durban on Friday night, Van Niekerk would grab that opportunity with both hands and make the mount his own going forward.

Not too sure Bayern but perhaps it's as you say Aldo isn't here and they don't want GVN to ride her for just one start and he's never ridden her. must be said, he's also sitting on a very promising filly In Nightingale.

bernard has a close affiliation with maine chance and he rides alot of there horses, perhaps that is the reason why aldo/van niekerk not riding the filly

Guys, Nightingale's last victory was good, but let's not lose sight of the fact that it was against MR 76 company, and none of whom are taking their place in Friday's line-up. The manner in which she won was jaw dropping, but there's not many horses that will sweep from last to first against Grade 2 opposition. The Flaming Rock type win in the July, you won't see that too often, and I somehow doubt Nightingale will repeat her last effort (from last to first) on Friday night. Nightingale has more than a lot of improving to do to beat this field.

Silver Mountain went from Maiden to Grade 1 winner in three runs, and won the Grade 1 in a very facile manner. Her next two starts were against the boys and she was far from disgraced it must be said. Silver Mountain will have to be extremely unlucky not to win on Friday night.

So why hasn't Fayd 'Herbe ridden her from day 1 then, both he and the horse were in Cape Town, only in her last two starts did she carry less than 58.0 which may have been a problem for Bernard (I think).

Nightingale - a better filly?

Mac, if we are to answer your question on what has been achieved to date, then it is fair to say Silver Mountain is the better of the two. If one looks back to all Silver Mountains runs where Van Niekerk had a ride in the very same races, hard to believe he would have freely chosen to sit on a 50/1 shot versus a 15/20 favourite, a 14/1 shot versus a 14/10 favourite, and so, but you get the gist.

Maybe with time Nightingale may prove to be the better filly, let's wait and see.

There's more chance of pigs flying than Nightingale being a better filly than Silver Mountain, no offence to those who do think so.
