When you think Bush Telegraph carried 49kgs!!!!
So yes I am wondering is this another reason why they had the cap. I hope I make sense now
Frodo this was what I am implying, an example will be Abashiri (117) and Rocketball (105). 12 points diffference.
With Legal Eagle in: Abashri (56.5kgs) Rocketball (53kgs) difference 3.5kgs
With Legal Eagle out and raising the weights as per their rule: Abashiri (59kgs) Rocketball (53kgs) difference 6kgs

They still can raise the weights after the final weights are given. The only time they wont be able to change it, I think if Legal Eagle is scratched after been declared in the final field.
Time will tell....

I think I follow.....if LE does not run and Abashiri does, the 'cap' of 57 kgs will be obsolete as weights will be raised proportionately to 60 kg's - with French Navy top weighted at 60 kg and Abashiri at 59 kg, followed by Inara at 58. In this case Abashiri would be giving runners like Mac de Lago and Deo Juvente 3 and 3.5 kg's respectively, the 3 yr old fillies Silver Mountain and Bela Bela 5 kg's - but even worse, he would need to give both Black Arthur and Rabada (who has been dropped to 106  ) 5.5 kgs
So I think highly unlikely that Abashiri will run - and even if Legal Eagle DOES run, Abashiri would still need to give Black Arthur and Rabada 3.5 kgs.......all of which imo makes Rabada good value at current odds

So then, apart from south african pride, why would they want to keep Abashiri in b the country when he is clearly not going to be handicapped well in the big race?
Surely they should get him into quarantine add quickly add possible?

The Legal Eagle situation in the July is quite ridiculous. Obviously its their perogative to do as they like, but by now they must have made up their mind.
If the real reason for scratching later is to benefit the owners other horses at the weights, it seems like a very callous manipulation of the rules.

Can anyone explain the Legal Eagle situation? Is it unlikely to run and, if so, why?

I very seldom have more than a small fun bet on the July, but this year I think that Legal Eagle WILL run, because when they sit and do their analysis they will conclude that,at the weights,it should win. I don't think that on exposed form that the 3 yr olds can beat him this year!(I am sure many disagree !!! )
Obviously we might still have the "emerging" star, still to show ,but last year it was Legal Eagle ,and even that didn't win!!!!
My lurkers would be Puntas Arenas ,IF he can repeat????? and The Conglomerate who was rated higher than LE about this time last year, and if bouncing back, could be well handicapped.
I will take a chance and take the value LE (not balls to the wall because of the uncertainty ) and save on the other 2 ,and that's me sorted!
