Nor Nightingale at 87. I guess these nominations must have been published when the NHRA was still churning the numbers from the weekend's racing.

According to Sportingpost, on their first declarations, they have

Black Arthur - 106
Nightingale - 92

The winner and placed horses in a Grade 2 or Grade 3 race is capped at a 10 point penalty for the winner, 5 points for 2nd place and 3 points for 3rd place.

I would like to know that when the July conditions was revised to, that a maximum weight a 3yo can carry in the July was 57kgs, was it done so it could not give older horses more the 4kgs and 5kgs to fillies and mares ?

I think Black Arthur too high and Nightingale obviously too low ( I have N at 103) - so in fact Nightingale is being 'done' by the handicapper as far as July qualification is concerned - but if she runs to that rating again in the DN, she could get pushed up to 102 at least - if she flops in the DN, this would leave the connections with a bit of a problem should they want to go for the July....appealing her MR would be an option I suppose - these 'caps' are idiotic imo

Not sure what point you are trying to make regarding the max weight for 3 yr olds being capped at 57 kg's for the July? Are you implying that there is another reason for the 'cap'?

Per Justin Vermaak on Winning ways last night the connections may elect to have her MR reviewed and increased to what she ran to if they are trying to qualify her for a race, alternatively they can accept her rating and target handicap races.

What I meant Frodo that the 3yos had a cap of 57kgs, was it done so they wont concede to older horses more than the 4kgs and 5kgs to fillies and mares. Now if they raise the weights of Abashiri to 59kgs as per their rule, Abashiri can now thus give weight up to 6/7kgs which I think becomes unfair for the 3yos to give so much weight. When you think Bush Telegraph carried 49kgs!!!!

So yes I am wondering is this another reason why they had the cap. I hope I make sense now

The rules were changed to feel sorry for the owners whose horses' MR's jumped up considerably in one move and then subsequently they battled to earn even place cheques. Now, is it fair to the other owners in the race that these horses should target handicap races?

I must say that there are some really optimistic entrants into the biggest race that this country has to offer. I wonder if it is the owners or the trainers ego that needed to be stoked? The entry fees paid can only be seen as a donation imvho
