Not got a problem with them in maidens

Ideal world we would have barrier trials but tbh South African racing can't afford them

how come those in charge do absolutely nothing about it is the question.

Barrier trials is one solution, they can also restrict unraced horses to races for first timers only or they can exclude them in the betting, etc. solutions are plenty if the willingness was there.....

but i think the status continues because trainers/owners want to pull betting coups......

"Operating to ones own advantage through having access to confidential/nonpublic information"
Those words are the adaption of the definition of insider trading as applied to horseracing ..........ring any bells?
The horseracing industry's rules promote what can only be described as insider trading as the public are forced to make decisions based on info they have no access to,and no attempt is made to provide them with ................and everytime they change the tote exotic rules they merely exacerbate the problem!

(When I first took an interest in racing(some 40 years ago) the general comments I got were that "you have no chance unless you are an insider"....................funny that the statement is more true now than it was then!!!)

The industry needs to up the trust factor(it proved to be a key ingredient in racing's revival in Singapore and Japan!) - barrier trials and reported workouts are a good start!

i remember the days when we had barrier trials in cape town.they really helped.8 runners and more,it was in the race card and it was like a race, but even if a horse wasnt fully ready you could see a quality horse and make a note for when it runs.every horse had to do a trial before they were allowed to run

In this instance Shebang paid R28.80 a win and R5.90 a win opened 14/1 started 40/1 so how much confidence could have been given to the so called "insiders" no doubt that the stable were just as surprised as the punter..Azzie is in devastating form at the moment and their horses go out trying so good luck to them and to an owner who deserves every success he gets ...albeit unexpected but the term 'absolute corruption' is laughable..

Titch,it isnt about trying to unravel the truth of each incident........the truth is that the ordinary punter is being asked to guess as to the ability/readiness/of first timers/rested or prepping horses......and the comparison to insider trading is a fair one-it is just not a situation which makes horse racing inviting-you have to see the point of view of a newbie, choosing a way to spend his gambling rands,as opposed to guys like you and I who got pulled in when it was the only game in town!

regardless of the owner or trainer, whether backed or not first timers steal money from punters. to me that is absolute corruption....

Its a lose lose situation for owners trainers and any so called "insiders" coz when information is openly divulged and the horse in question runs according to expectations then all is good but when a horse runs a bad race the source gets unfairly shot down in flames and accused of being a disinformant with an ulterior motive working with the mythical 'bookies', and the insults are without exception far more vociferous than any thank you that may be expressed when the information works out right, ultimately shoulders are shrugged and said folk rightly move on and choose not to express their thoughts any longer, there can be little doubt that should there be time trials and a horse shows nothing in them then comes out and wins the same insults will fly re hiding a horse away in the time trial, which are basically the same as the July gallops, I have been watching the HK gallops since Gav has been over there and not only do they show very little but have no real bearing on the betting ...

i say restrict unraced runners to race amongst themselves and then exclude those races from exotics. that requires no barrier trial or time trial, etc. stakes are earned and those who wanna gamble can gamble there.....

Certain first timers when they do win at long odds some breeding enthusiasts do find them.
If there are runners making their debut in a race, then dont wager a bet in the race if it going to cause you agony.

In America, I know all track work outs are timed.
