.....really improved international interest to bump up prices.....must be a better way for them to get these purchases out.....or will we see them stay and race with local racing managers getting in on the act....
....the local hosting of the ITBF conference in the Cape must have attracted in these big hitting bloodstock agents....how are Mike Holmes and co going to top this come NYS time.....

I wonder what the difference in success rate would be?

Hi Garrick I have a purchase record for you to throw darts at..

The importance of track record
There are many factors that influence the racehorse ownership experience but none more so than the horses themselves. Choosing the right horse is where it all begins.. get it wrong at this stage and you will have only one decision to make down the line – when to cut your losses. It may seem obvious that buying the right horse is the foundation of the ownership experience, yet this critical stage is largely overlooked and left to blind chance. Owners have all too easily accepted the mantra that ‘winners come in all shapes and sizes, that horses don’t run on looks or paper, and every horse has an equal chance at a profitable career and greatness.’ Obviously there is truth to this, just as there is truth to buying a lotto ticket for a chance to win.
Selecting athletes with performance ability that can stand up to the rigors of racing is a specialized field requiring technical knowledge, horsemanship, practical experience and most importantly, natural born talent. The natural ability to identify performance is much the same as the natural ability to create music. It’s either there or it isn’t, and even a lifetime of experience is useless without it. The results of work, conditioning and experience are directly determined by the natural ability that lies beneath – this is a universal truth. In the context of racing horses it applies to both a horse’s ability to perform, as well as a bloodstock agent’s ability to spot it. That is my opinion.. and there are many more opinions and methods in use out there but in the end, there is only ONE WAY to settle all the talk, and it’s called a purchase record.. with judgement at the races.
A professional bloodstock agent’s purchase record should be on display for all to see in order to legitimize his/her authenticity. All of it, not just the success stories. Number of winners is meaningless without total number of purchases right alongside to show the ratios, and the same applies to purchase costs vs earnings etc. For every winner in a race there’s a field of losers behind, and every one of them was sold on the back of a dream. Any type of bloodstock picking will produce winners, even if executed completely at random.. eventually. The question is how many losers will pepper the route along the way and at what cost.

Thanks. Technically I didn't. I found him, assessed and profiled him and sent multimedia package to client for approval and then landed the winning bid gavel-down done 'n dusted. Sale was cancelled later on for reasons out of my control. As a bloodstock agent I am still due the credit my job was done when the gavel fell. It was my first auction experience and the first and last time I've ever shopped outside KZN, or spent that kind of money since. Opportunities are few and far between as an emerging bloodstock agent.. got to keep chipping away.

Leon, the most important aspect of your/my profession is the ability to know your client.
what he can afford
where he wants to compete
who he is going to use as trainer
what that trainer/s strong points are.
afterwards..feedback and a personal relationship..
keep to this simple method and your clients stay clients.
your client Francois v Ghent doing very well..congrats due

Another suspense filled wait, Easy you have a talent for this it seems. Why don't you do a double header and include "Ryan Munger - my part in his downfall"?
You would make an incredible contribution to racings Goon show.
