Karel Miedema has stated the facts on this site previouslys,so go hunt for the facts if you like, but basically he ridiculed the 2nd run after a rest as absolute hogwash.I agree with him, although where I do pay attention to it is where a horse runs well after a rest over a distance short of it's best, and then is turned out again soon thereafter.I have noticed that they often run 'flat'(His calling in the 5th @ Fairview today was the perfect example in imo)in that 2nd run.I think the 2nd after a rest theory actually eminates from England, but I stand under correction on that.

Well Bill had a second run after a rest yesterday and surely disproved that theory. His 1st run back was also quite a hard run and brought him on resulting in a good run yesterday. Am I missing anything?

Looking through the form, that run was way below what the horse is capable of, so no way he was even nearly extended....considering a 4.5 length win over 2400m.
On the ground that may have been the impression -- and albeit very different to reality, on paper i didn't make him extended.
Here are my ratings
29 May 07 2400 57.53
18 May 08 1800 44.14
In my humble opinion - a cherry ripe horse, and the reason I feared him most behind Earlswood.
Fact that he came out and won so well, would support my view -- although others may not see it that way. Based on my ratings - your trainer would have been very bullish, and considered that first run an excellent prep for the horse.
Anyway, you guys own the horse so i have no place to argue your views around the horse.
Just as an Aside I had Earlswood Rated as Follows: I should have factored in that the younger horse was more apt to improve than the 6 year old -- (easier in hindsight)
05 Mar 08 2400 66.86
18 May 08 2500 55.93
I think Earlswoods Connections had just as much basis for being hopeful. Not sure wether Earlswood had some trouble on the greyville track, or wether Bill Of Rights improved his rating to beyond the 66.86 -- which is quite possible given that his 57+ rating I gave him, was off a 4 length win.
hmmm...just checked some data on that Race and have upgraded your horse to
07 Jun 08 2400 74.93
I will tell you that that is damn good rating, and I have not had such a high rating for more than 3 or 4 horses.
I had Dylan Thomas rated at 50 over 2400m
Also off the Daily News run I have rated Russian Sage at 55.17, now thats really amazing given the distance is a lot shorter than 2400 and only the really top horses are ever going to get that kind of rating over 2000m
Here's a quick benchmark over 2000M
Pick Six : 53.90
Jewel Of Jwaneng : 54.20
As an aside - the ratings I give are not magical one to one comparison's, as you are aware no single factor can determine a winning race horse.

Our hope is that we find a horse which cannot be extended by it's competition.
Once a winning horse is extended, it's usually the end of it's career -- generalization and not the rule.
