Knowing less about racing is the best

I had a very freaky encounter @ Greyville this Sunday. I attended the racing with one of my mates. Who really knows nothing about racing but just how to put down a win bet. His theory is back no 7 the whole day. He knows nothing about trainers, owners, jockeys MR ETC. So here we are and he bets R100 on no 7 the whole day, till the lucky last. So he goes takes a bet for no 7 to win. While standing in the queue with he asks me how to take a quartet but he fancies the 7 & 6. So we go in and take 7 & 6 for the first 2 and field for 3rd and 4th for about 50%. Low and behold 7 wins and we all excited as the tote win Pays around R17. Then he drops the bomb he decided to visit a bookie and back the 7 for R300 and it does not end with all the exciting we did not notice that the 6 ran second boom quartet 50% = +- R7000 and if all that is not good enough he also took the swinger 6 & 7 100 times with a healthy payout of R1300 and the ex R100 for payment of Almost R10K. When I enquired why he took ex and sw, the guy in front of him was taking swingers and ex and it seemed like a good bet. All in all he made a handsome profit of R25000 with about R800 investment. How he got the 6 he does not know just liked the name.

Do we spend took much time studying forms , rating ETC? or should we just back on pot luck.
Racing is a confusing game.

PS the same mate visited the tote a few months and backed a no7 with R1000 wins @ Scottsville. the only bet he had taken for months, No 7 Shits in and he not even sure of the horses name nor the PRICE. Goes to cash the ticket and SBV get called to bring more money LOL, horse paid R58 a win.

My friend applies the same theory for dog racing, backs draw/gate/trap # 4 every race in the hope one arrives and pays rockets.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

I don't exactly agree "knowing less is best"

But what I wish I never had a bet more than R20

My friend who sits at our table at the tote...plays 5 and 7 every race. The table across from us an old ballie plays all horses above and below scratchings. The table behind us play trainers with 1 runner for the day!!! And the table in front plays daily dream numbers.... Reasons why I love going to the tote...never a dull moment, mind you the group I hang out with...2 are older than 70! 3 older than 60... And 1 in his fifties...I'm the only laitie there!!! Its a but house daily!!!

No not on the same line. 4 on one line and 2 on the other. I would never catch a brag if all 6 came in on one line as more than likely I would just keel over and that would be the end.

I take a TF and QT box in every SA race 1.2.3.10 for R12 ea. Also play a bipot and PA 1.2 x.1.2 x 1.2 x 1.2 x 1.2 x 1.2 x 1.2 for R13 ea

Some days I will play # 1 and 2 P6 and add the stuff I like

If you rely on pure luck, why waste your time with horses? There are plenty of brain dead options available to you in a casino imvho
