a simple fix - when the horses reach the gates the jocks should each receive a stall number that they have to attach to the corresponding gate as they load

Not the starter or the assistant starter or the handlers or indeed the jocks themselves noticed anything wrong. Neither the stripes or any RA people or directors at the course noticed it was wrong. UNBELIEVABLE truly UNBELIEVABLE. in the time I was there each race is worked out by the starter and his team before the meeting starts. The order in which they are to load (according to their starting stall certificates) and the gate numbers are all in place long before the meeting starts . Not sure if this is still the case but for EVERYONE to miss this is just UNBELIEVABLE. But a punter sitting at home picked it up!!!!. Let's watch and see how the ringmaster deals with the clowns.
I'm not surprised at all. Punters have their money on, it's a proper interest. Even if they don't have money on, the interest is there to build up their knowledge.
It also proves the point that horse racing is just not like a casino where you stand there waiting to see what randomness will serve you up next, you engage.
Racing serves us up a poor TV quality, non interested referees, non interested management, mostly weak interface with presenters who do little to change up their game, and the definite feeling from punters that the game doesn't give a single shit about them.
Events like this just go another notch to convince punters they care more about the game than the privileged participants.

Or, in the US, saddle cloth numbers also represent starting stall numbers.

Re: Ken 1 - Fav In Wrong Stall?
7 years 10 months ago.....it may be a perfect system for dummies at the starting stalls and lazy jocks that need not check the race guide to see where they are drawn.....but to the seasoned punter and racing administrators it would be totally alien and very hard to adapt.....our system and in most other racing jurisdictions..... the numeric allocation or horse race no .....works mostly on handicap and ratings....ie the highest weight is allocated to the no 1 horse and should also be the highest rated horse and then the next weighted and rated and so forth until we get to the bottom weight as the highest numeric number....simple....now nothing wrong with our present system....which is to place the horse no. above the back of the starting stall gate which is done by the starter and officials at the gates....they have a clipboard with the published draw numbers....so the jock and the loaders can get the correct horse in the correct gate.....any deviation from this or mistakes made is the fault of officials that are at the gates....Gambler wrote:Mac wrote: Or, in the US, saddle cloth numbers also represent starting stall numbers.

.....so If we bring in the so called ideal system of draw and saddle cloth no being the same.....just imagine how hard it would be to study a true handicap race.....let alone a fillies and mares handicap race..... that some seem to be having a problem with...... :silly:

Pumeza ran 4th a neck behind the 3rd horse Bendy Bullet. Pumeza was penalised/ disadvantaged by putting her in the incorrect gate towards the outside. IMO if she was put in the correct starting stall gate she would of ran 3rd. Hence the swingers, trifecta & quartet were impacted. IMO thousands of rands were lost due to the negligence Kenilworth Racecourse regulators.

I phoned 021-7001900 Kenilworth Racecourse to speak to Mr. Shearer in order to ascertain the outcome of the investigation. Audrey the accountant told me Mr. Shearer worked on Saturday but he is currently on leave. I'm assuming we punters have to wait until Senior Stipe Mr. Shearer comes back from leave to hear the outcome of the investigation.

g) An investigation has been opened into the circumstances which led to MISS CRUSADE (L Govender) and PUMEZA (G Behr) starting from the incorrect stalls.
