'Getting On'
7 years 8 months ago
One of the topics which seems to crop up with almost monotonous regularity on this site regards 'getting on' and how difficult it has become.
When I see the somewhat paltry bets involved in account closures and bannings I must admit I am amazed as it is not a problem I have ever experienced in over 45 years of racing. (I can't be a very good punter, right?).
Without wishing to sound like a commercial : Why not just open an Interbet account?
Although you would almost certainly have a problem if you were looking for, say, R50k - R100k of a horse I have not ever experienced any difficulty with bets of up to about R20k - R30k although the majority of my action is in the R2k - R10k area as I only punt 'for fun' nowadays. Admittedly I may have to 'feed' funds into the market in a succession of bets but I can usually get what I am looking for.
As I am sure you know: Interbet offer 2 platforms - The 'exchange' and the 'retail' section. On the latter you can get R10k of a horse with one hit & then mop up the balance required on the exchange if you so wish. Although I play off a PC I know they also have a Mobi site for cellphone users.
I also find that their normally fractionally better odds tend to cover the charge they levy for the service. For my purposes it's fine.
You can also access the Tote from your account if you so wish so it really offers quite a high degree of convenience.
Just wondering.

Hi Garrick
I bet my "retail" with one bookmaker who I have supported for 30 years and we have a 50k agreement as long as I place my bet within an hour of the race. I have used interbet on occasion but find that if you are looking for something other than the hotties the market is thin and it is difficult to get on. Asking to win an amount larger than 10k at your price results in a shortening of the horses price every time.

I wish that I was a big dog. I find that I want the 50k bet on very few occasions these days, and when I do 95% of the time it involves a sporting bet and not a racing one. I have lost confidence in the integrity of the sport, and whilst sport has its very prominent examples of cheating, I feel that I get a far fairer roll of the dice.

If I had a bank, I would have never done anything else but to lay unlimited amounts to all and sundry.
I may lose 3 million this weekend , but as long as I am consistent, on the balance of swings and roundabouts, I will be a winner year on year..there is no doubt in my mind about that.
That's why I am so perplexed at how the bookies handle their business's these days.
I keep asking if they are not doing the punter a favour by reducing limits etc, as strange as it may sound

Good morning guys. Today I intend putting 20K on Mooney & I dont want to take under the odds. Interbet retail will lay me 10K at shockingly bad odds. Their exchange will not have enough volume to cover the rest. I then have to go to my local betting shop who will make a number of calls to their head office & might lay me 20K of the horse, Per Bet, at reduced (claimed)odds.
I then have to scheme & use friends online accounts to place a few more bets.
As I have confirmed many times, I have been limited by most reputable bookmakers.
My bet will destroy the tote dividends.
After all of this I will probably have a migraine & be stressed out.
I am going with family, to the track to have an outing, try to enjoy myself & hopefully find a couple of winners.
Obviously I am a long term loser at the game & I have to struggle to give my money away.
Not advocating bucket shops & betting exchanges because he are illegal but they certainly would make my betting life easier.

Almost forgot, A special heartfelt thanks to ABC. At least I can let off steam & feel like someone is listening to my gripes . My wife & kids have also banned me from talking & complaining about anything related to betting. :S :S :S
