Khumalo should be given a holiday.
7 years 8 months ago
To me, the real litmus test for the NHRA started today with the ride of Khumalo on Tigers Legacy in the last. I want to see if the NHRA hold an enquiry into the ride of the horse. I have watched replay after replay of the start, it looks like Khumalo was not concentrating or had been distracted. The horse was out of the gates late because of Khumalo and not because of the horse. It is my view that Khumalo did not act professionally and should get a long time off. To make matters worse, he was on the favourite for wins, PA and Pick 6 and ran stone last. These jocks do not understand that hard earned money is on them doing their jobs. If the horse is no good it is another story. It feels as if punters are pissing in the wind while the NHRA uses the spattering to clean their shoes.

We would need to import jockeys if your suggestion is accepted. All our jocks would be on suspension.

Jurgs, whenever it comes to Khumalo people are quick to call for him getting time off but the same people are very quiet when the likes of Callan do exactly the same thing.

Form Fundi, you have made a fair comment. The stipes opened a Pandoras box when they did nothing to Murray. In the end, punters are screwed again by the NHRA. There are too many Dr Jeckel and Mr Hydes employed by the NHRA.

I did not see the race. However, I have been amazed over the last 3 years or so, at how completely sh@t scared our jocks have become in the stalls. It's scary...excuse the pun !
The older senior guys openly admit this. The younger guys follow suit. What do we have riding nowadays ? Computer nerds?
I had the great privilege of seeing the likes of the late great uncle Roy Curling and also uncle Claude Walker, together with my late Dad, have to school horses of all ages, raced and unraced, for the stalls when the stalls arrived, to replace the tapes. This was a tough task, something completely new and foreign to horses.
What happened to those jocks ? The tough little buggers who were not scared to pick a fight with the biggest bloke in the room? The jocks who would NEVER EVER admit any fear of or on a horse ?
Most of our problems at starts are being caused by jocks who are scared, which the horses sense. Feet out of the irons in the stalls is a norm today and jumping off the horse and standing on the side are also the flavour of the month, nowadays. And the amount of shouting and screaming from within the stalls is also quite unbelievable nowadays.
By comparison, go to the start of a Workriders race, where many of the runners are quite "hot" to say the least. You hardly hear a word spoken....

Cheers LG
The same could be said with football, remember the "hard men" with these leather balls with the lace, smacking you in the face in the driving rain at 10 quid a week
Now look at the prima donnas diving for oscars at a million a week
As my dad used to say "hanging is too good for the bastards, they need a good kick in the arse"
Lol

Dave, i have also looked at the race time and time again..the starter had his hands full with the
horses and late scratching..WHEN THE GATES OPENED KHUMALO WAS SWITCHED OFF. Time and time again we as punters have been done in by the total lack of commitment by our professional jockey's...being it not riding a horse out to the finish and costing a owner a bigger stakes cheque..a punter a quartet..
interesting to note is the riding arrangements of the Tarry yard lately..Khumalo may be getting the same punishment that Murruy is receiving from de Kock.

The question is where would the horse have finished had it jumped on terms given the distance beaten??
Give everything but up!

Titch you have been in this game a long time so your answer surprises me. The jock cocked the start up and didnt try an inch thereafter, his race was run before the horse travelled 10m. How you think that the horse could not be competitive without this poor ride I do not understand. Why was this horse favourite?
