One thing I do notice is that the KZN commentators do commit more readily than most others to calling the winner in a photo finish.

People way too sensitive. The race he called that got people's panties twisted was perhaps a bit excessive, but in general he does try not to drone on in a monotone while listing horses with no context. I could see the race and was noticing the same issues that horse was having last night as he was calling it. And yes, it was a horse many were interested in.

Yes, it has bugged me before, that the horse I'm on looks to be involved in the finish is barely mentioned , while the favourite who is never going to get there is being described in detail.
I get though, that there was probably more people interested in the chances of the favourite than my horse .
He is generally accurate and entertaining to listen to but agree he does gets bit too obvious with his bias.

Remember he’s also the oncourse commentator, has to make the night exciting for the punters, who probably don’t have as great a view as us at home

I must concur with the statement that Sheldon gloats...seems he gets the inside information and brags bout it... Basically mocking us the punters...remember once he said when she a Fortress won...Andrew Bon phoned him to label it...needs change understand he is privileged but don't gloat

Hate getting personal.. My view generally on SA racing commentators is they are ALL top class.. Yes I do have a favorite as I think this guys overall in depth knowledge of horse racing is exceptional..and comes through in his commentaries.. He does Jhb and PE commentaries.. However they are all streets ahead of the drivel I hear from Europe USA and the east

I like it when a commentator can spot a horse going nicely in the race.Viking Red I think opened up bookies favorite yesterday so I think he was just calling it for the majority of punters who wanted it to run a good race.He also probably backed it and liked the way it was travelling in the race.

Since ive punted horses which has been more than 20yrs smiley moosa was the best ever.Craig Peters was very close.Im a little dissapointed in they way Craig calls nowadays as his not a shadow of how he called years ago .Sheldon does a lot for racing so i think we need to give him a break.Good luck to him if he backed the winner when he commentates. I know when i back a winner i go bos !

When I watch 239 I can't help myself from thinking they having a laugh, I personally don't have a problem with Sheldon but never seen this race in question. Whenever I watch the racing I hear nonsense and arse licking, punting Bettingworld and 150k houses. I still haven't heard where they got Lyle Cooper from. I used to have that channel on the whole day but can't take it anymore lol Watch it in the bookies and thats it

Oscar

the reason you think the overseas guys are not up to standard is because their JOB is to commentate and their commentary often gets SOLD over telephone lines therefore it becomes a product with a value and nothing worse than ringing a commentary line and NOT getting the correct result or even hearing if your horse ran or not.
