I think KZN racing has more excitement. There is always the graft (even if the commentators have it)...it adds to the excitement...why should we compare ourselves to Europe....I personally like the vibe of the KZN courses..so much better than Cape or Gauteng! Sheldon is very approachable on course. He genuinely has the punters interest at heart.

When a horse is favourite it means that the most money has been wagered on it, it does not mean that most punters have backed it.

the point is everyone is entitled to like eating their steak differently. The vendor of the steak though still has to produce the correct steak at the correct weight.
So i get it, some people like Sheldon's way of commentating.
I don't not because i don't like sheldon but because I'm far away and sometimes i have to dial in to listen. Heaven forbid he commentated in my school days.
EVERYONE that knows me well knows i spent my educative years with a computaform and a radio with me all the time. Those days there were no cell phones. So i had a little radio, carried it with me everywhere even to school. Had Sheldon been around those days commentating on the radio he would have been sacked no doubt about it.
Its easy to say "if you don't like it turn off the sound"
That is the most pathetic answer ever. Of course you can turn off the sound you still have your eyes to see the result and where your horse ran. so it makes no difference.
BUT to the people that cannot see the race, whether they in the toilet at the racecourse, driving to Carlisle or in movie house with an ear piece in HIS JOB is to describe the race and as many of its participants as possible.

I think the problem here is that many feel he tends to talk up a horse that people perceive he has backed. Let's flip the argument on it's head. If he gave the viewer/listener the first 5 finishers to cross the line, but in the same manner/tone (whatever) of commentary, would it make anyone feel any better?
I don't know Sheldon personally, but for those who do, have you ever brought this up with him - constructive criticism is welcomed by most, surely he won't get upset?
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

My fav was O'Sullivan
We have been blessed by many great commentators in SA over the years
I personally like the young man, he is bubbly and enthusiastic.
If you back the winner you will probably not be that critical of whom is calling the race?
Good punting
