It appears that a major financial institution has applied for the provisional liquidation. If this is accurate, and I note specific reference to this on SP, then there is no speculation in my opinion. At best for Jooste is he may buy some time, but with sentiment the way it is, I'm sure any legal action will be successful

Does anyone actually know what the actual "mistakes" were or even if they were illegal rather than irresponsible ? Big difference . I just have not seen much detail,

I'm pretty sure that this action has been taken because of financial institutions that have exposure to Steinhoff borrowings. Mayfair Speculators targeted so that they can have first bite at the cherry.

I recall jooste/mayfair perhaps had a property that they had bonded for 64 million in the cape - would that not be a reason to act as a bank as your risk of repayment is in doubt - I can't think that an institution would act against a Steinhoff director/ceo to recover money in his personal capacity as there are plenty assets in Steinhoff that can be sold and there is a far bigger fish - wiese - who could repay the debt easily - I would think any action against Mayfair would be on the grounds that they owe banks money for loans/bonds etc
Under his name, he owns two properties. One is a 92 432 square metre stand in the Val De Vie estate, which was bought in 2016 for R10.5m.
Val de Vie is an estate just outside Paarl and is described on their website as being in a valley dappled with vineyards, fruit trees and olive groves, with the Drakenstein and Simonsberg mountains as a backdrop.
“It’s favoured by many high-profile individuals and some of society’s elite, who choose to escape the bustle of the city, while remaining close enough for a daily commute into Cape Town.”
According to deed searches, the land was bonded twice for R46m and, then again, for R65m. Google Maps shows that it is a large piece of land that has not yet been developed.
Jooste has a number of properties under a Hermanus company name, with 25 of them that are listed in Cape Town, Calitzdorp, Hermanus and Jamestown worth more than R40m.

Steinhoff don’t even know themselves.

Steinhoff down to R4.65 due to concerns over funding.
The vultures are circling. Many loans were granted with the Steinhoff shares used as collateral.

Like I said in the thread about Jocks/Trainers not thanking MJ, the one that was deleted Friday the 8th I think: as I was told by someone close to the action, Mayfair indirectly had a long position on SNH shares. When the share tanked, the bank called in their loan - that was December 7, and a huge amount.

To get all those horses to a dispersal sale is going to cost someone a lot of money....to continue feeding and looking after the horses another large amount .. I don't think a bank or anyone outside of racing understands the risk in getting an application of whatever against horses and again what value do they put on the horses .

Legal Eagle is a gelding.

The transactions for legal and edict could be looked into and thus voided if the liquidator deems that they were sold irregularly i.e. Way below market value and thus to the detriment of the creditors. However how that value is determined is another question. Is the dual horse of the year not worth more then 3.2M for breeding purposes?
