Don't leave Trippi's Girl (11/2) out your play in the first race. Compared to those shorter than her in the betting, Platinum Class (3/1), Freedom Charter (9/2) and Quick Brown Fox (5/1), PC and FC are taking on stronger than their last one or two runs, and QBF achieved that rating over 1200m 434 days ago.

Trippi's Girl raced against this class of opposition second and third runs back and wasn't disgraced considering the weight conceded to the winners. Last time out in a Conditions Plate, she bumped some fair sorts and again was far from disgraced. Saturday she should be very competitive against this opposition considering she has dropped in the ratings.

The double with Clouds Unfold in the second is worth a go, (46.5/1).
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Decided to go with Gold Standard in the BIG ONE. If this horse wins, how many of you would be surprised? Here's a few things to consider :-

This has always been this horse's main aim since finishing 4th last year. Whilst the 3 comeback runs, at face value, appear disappointing, Joe Public will never know how hard they really pushed this horse, or whether those finishes were on ability alone. Bar injury, this horse was always guaranteed a run. Remember listening to Kotzen saying before the last run, they only had to find 2.50 lengths on Legal Eagle, and he was far from unhappy with the horse's progress. I don't believe this horse has been "cut in half" to get a run (here). Again, I don't believe they would have let him take his place in the race for a 6th to 10th place cheque, if they didn't think he could win this, despite the exposed form.

Don't say you didn't get the memo

Snaith comments from their Facebook, good on them

Comments on our 2018 Sun Met runners

This years Sun Met is very open and competitive with the conditions of the race being amended to a pure weight-for-age event.
On paper, Marinaresco looks the horse to beat on his 2017 Vodacom July run. He could well have the measure of Legal Eagle over this trip, taking his the 2018 L'Ormarins Queen's Plate run into account.

We have five runners listed below, and although it is going to be tough to beat the two above on weight-for-age terms, we will be trying!

6. KRAMBAMBULI: He loves this time of the year and he is at his very best. He always produces on the big occasions and is the dark horse from our string. He is not one you can leave out the carryover pick 6 and any other bets for that matter.

8. ELUSIVE SILVA: He has only had one start going into this race which is not ideal but he looks terrific. He is going to have to produce his very best effort to feature. He is not well weighted but has some class about him.

11. COPPER FORCE: His L'Ormarins Queen's Plate run was superb and his work is phenomenal. He is yet to perform well further than a mile but he did have excuses previously.
If he reproduces his previous run then he has to be respected.

14. AFRICAN NIGHT SKY: He has had a great preparation for the Sun Met which was always his main mission. He will improve considerably over the ten furlong trip and must be included in everything. He will run a cracker.

20. OH SUSANNA: She is an improving filly who will relish the extra trip. She will be better in time but she has a weight advantage over the older horses. She should be right in the firing line.

Good luck to all the connections who have a horse who has made the final field, you should be proud.
