Interestingly the 2 top weights at this stage will be Legislate and Gold Standard off a 117 rating. Then there is a big drop down to 112 if my eyes did not deceive me.

If no horse 4 year old or older horse is supplemented into the race off a 121 Oh Susanna will come into the race being the best handicapped horse by 8 points (taking into account the 4 point WFA). A 3 year filly can carry a maximum of 56 kg's in the July. African Night Sky will still have a big pull in the weights from the Met run but 3 year olds should have come on from February to July.

What is scary is that if there was not the 6 points added in March we would be looking at (barring Oh Susanna) two 111 followed by a few 106 as the best rated horses in the race.

Just a few notes from the conditions for the race courtesy of Karel at SP:

Weights shall be framed by the Handicapper in his sole discretion and without necessarily having regard for horses’ merit ratings, but subject to the following:
1. The weights to be carried shall not exceed 60kg and shall not be less than 52kg.
2. Minimum weight for 4-yo and older: Colts and Geldings 53kg Fillies and Mares 52kg
Maximum weight for 4-yo and older at publication of weights: Colts and Geldings 60kg Fillies and Mares 59kg
3. Minimum weight for 3-yo: Colts and Geldings 53kg Fillies 52kg
Maximum weight for 3-yo at publication of weights: Colts and Geldings 57kg Fillies and Mares 56kg

Qualifying Races: (whoever wrote this long sentence should not be allowed to communicate ever again)
The winners of the following Grade 1 races in the current season will qualify automatically save that, where appropriate, Gold Circle reserves the right to request a public gallop to determine the well-being / fitness in the event that any of these winners have not raced within three months of the date of final declaration (given the timing of these races, this would practically speaking only apply to winners of Events 1, 2 & 3):-

1. L’Ormarins Queens Plate – Legal Eagle (not entered)
2. SunMet – Oh Susanna (MR 121 – will carry maximum for 3yo filly of 56kg)
3. Investec Cape Derby – Eyes Wide Open (not entered)
4. SA Classic – Lobo’s Legend (not entered)
5. Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic – Takingthepeace (MR 104 – given highest older male MR is 117 and wfa =-4 that means she’ll have minimum 3yo filly weight of 52kg – so she gets 4kg from a 3yo filly rated 121….)
6. SA Derby
7. Premier’s Champions Challenge
8. Daily News 2000
9. Woolavington 2000
10. Rising Sun Gold Challenge

Winners of the following races in the current season will enjoy preferential consideration for
inclusion in the final field:-
1. Sansui Summer Cup (Gr 1) – Liege (MR 110)
2. Betting World 1900 (Gr 2)
3. Cup Trial (Gr 3)
4. Jubilee Handicap (Gr 3)

On the Met run, African Night Sky is so much better off than anything else that he will need to run a lot worse than in the Met to get beat.....

IF Oh Susanna stays in (which I doubt), she would go up 4.5 kgs from the Met, and ANS will go down 4 kgs - so thats an 8.5 kg difference and I can't see OS improving 17 points since the Met ....

IF OS is taken out and Gold Standard stays in (not sure what the plans are), then GS will go up 0.5 kgs and ANS will go down 1.5 kgs - and ANS finished in front of GS in the Met

IF all of OS, GS and Deo Juvente comes out, then Saratoga Dancer might end up as top weight at 60 kgs - and ANS will come in at 58 kgs

IMO ANS was underrated on his Met performance - if one would have OS running to 115 (before the recent 6 points increase) in the Met, then by my calcs ANS ran to 117 - so today he should be 123  For me OS ran to much lower (106) - but that would still make ANS 108 - the same mark he is today - after being given a 6 point increase

Long story short - IF everything stays on track with ANS he will walk the July - and I have put my money where my mouth is B)
