I really don't understand your point Craig,a point you've been making here for years.
Of course you are right, nobody can make slow horses run fast.
However, isn't that your job,to find owners to buy you fast horses?
What's that got to do with anyone on here?
......not many owners around to splash out ZAR1.6 bar....like for Que The Music for Mario Ferriera....
Same MF??...

Same MF and same story thats been doing the rounds for more than 2 years. Funny how the story keeps resurfacing just before MF goes to Court re the hundreds of millions still outstanding to him. It appears or is alleged that he wins each case, ends up in arbitration, is offered a minute settlement , refuses and back to court we go again....
But to be honest, I do not know the actual details etc.

@louisg...thanks for reply...
Horse-racing ownership seems to have a few persons with alleged impropriety - remember the Bhana's were alleged involved in the asset stripping of Aurora, Albashiri's former / late owner alleged involved in some telecoms fraud to name but two examples I can think of...sad for persons in the industry that do a honest day's work being tainted by association...

Louis ,The huge problem with Cape Town racing is that there are too few horses.
I walked through Milnerton with a trainer 2 weeks ago and counted more then 100
empty stables in the barn area which has a total of about 425 stables.
The small owner has vanished from Cape racing over the past 8 years.
The racing is controlled by 7 stables who have the bulk on the stock
A possible change may come due to Mayfair failing but it will take time
and may result in more of the small stables closing
That is my opinion

/.....but at the recent CTS sales there were more than a 100 not sold or buy backs.....these trainers with empty boxes should approach the breeders that failed to sell and do deals with them to offer at a reduced training fee- breaking in, schooling and preparation for RTR ....
....trainers who spot a bit of potential can then get owners interested and bid on them either at RTR or if horse dont get accepted for sales then do a lease deal with breeder....

Re: The 'D Day' Invasion has started!!!
7 years 3 months agoif you look at the card one week later in gauteng the group 2 nursery fillies for 2yos is 400k as opposed to the grade 3 strelitzia for 200k ...the boys equalivent for 2yos sees the 1 million rand sa nursery group2 as opposed to the 200k godolphin barb group 3 ...the group 2 camelia stakes for fillies is the same race and stakes as the group 3 poinsettia and then you have the million rand computaform group one sprint as opposed to the listed in full flight stakes for 150k ...because the seasons overlap these same type races are one week apart and considering the stakes involved and the higher grading its a no brainer where the bulk of the best of gauteng are going to race ...The best of the cape 2yos DO NOT COME TO NATAL i can give you a list of superstars that never raced once as 2yos in natal but i wont bore you or the other readers but i recall deez getting embarrassed by justin snaith after he won a 2yo race last season and he said to justin we should have known you wouldnt bring a 2yo here for no reason only fir justin to answer my best 2yos stay in the cape and i bring 2yos to natal that have natal owners ....2 of the 6 group one races for 2yos in natal have already been downgraded to grade 2s and i expect further downgrades to happen ..Some of these past winners cannot compete in chapter challenge races never mind group one races these days ...lets face it the best dont come to natal anymore none more so than horse of the year for the last how many years legal eagle who has only ever raced once in natal throughout his whole career...louisg wrote: Fiats are doing very well....won all 3 of the graded races today.

7 years 3 months agoSo what you are saying is that every trainer at summerveld is of the same ability?Craig Eudey wrote: Please explain how you know you are buying a fast horse? I have for years tried to tell punters to concentrate on the horses ability. That is my point. The horse is by far and away the most important factor. As a top vet noted the other day, we all work on the same tracks, feed Epol, Capstone or Equifeeds, use one of 2 vets here. The only basic difference is the ability of the horse.

Points well made Pirates.
And whilst I cannot answer for Craig , I will from my own side - no 2 Trainers are alike, let alone a group of Trainers. From our side we never stop learning. Our basis is old fashioned in terms of our stable management procedures and handling of our horses. However, there are constant upgrades and subtle changes to many areas , equipment etc., eg Bomber bits. The only other new things are the new vet rules and new drugs, with hideous cost implications on Owners. However, our age old meds, remedies and applications are still very relevant. But we still have to think about every individual horse every day. With a cap of 39 stables, with 3 or 4 overflow, we are limited as to our log position but still prefer that and setting our own goals. And keep learning !

No Pirates, just showing that the biggest single factor is the ability of the horse as the majority of other big factors ( feed, sand tracks, grass tracks, stables, Vets, grooms, physio etc) are the same.

Imo, the difference between trainers are in the way they prepare their horses for specific races; yes, the feed, tracks, grooms etc are the same (or mostly the same), but trainer A would set out a different training schedule for a horse going into a 'targeted' race, than trainer B - and that's where the difference lies - some are 'better' trainers in their ability to 'read' a horse and what is needed to bring the best out of them - so trainer A would get different results out of the same horse than trainer B - just my opinion
