The 'D Day' Invasion has started!!!
7 years 4 months ago
Punters should now be aware that the invasion of horses from Cape Town
has started
The quality of the Cape horses is so far above the rest of the RSA it is
an embarrassment
Yesterday was a example of what is going to happen for the next 3 months
But the racing will be good to watch

Maybe people will now listen. The first thing Dennis Drier said in his interview is thank you to the horse's as no matter how good you are, without the right horse's you can do nothing. Anton has said the same.

I really don't understand your point Craig,a point you've been making here for years.
Of course you are right, nobody can make slow horses run fast.
However, isn't that your job,to find owners to buy you fast horses?
What's that got to do with anyone on here?

Please explain how you know you are buying a fast horse? I have for years tried to tell punters to concentrate on the horses ability. That is my point. The horse is by far and away the most important factor. As a top vet noted the other day, we all work on the same tracks, feed Epol, Capstone or Equifeeds, use one of 2 vets here. The only basic difference is the ability of the horse.

In principle, Craig is 100 percent correct, where ability is concerned. However, I am not convinced re same vets, same feeds etc. My string and my last 20 or so runners refer.
Right now my string is dead, first horses beaten in a race. We had the virus and then the 6 weeks of rain. During the rain, I chose NOT to risk soundness on what I perceived to be unsafe training tracks. The result would be a sound but unfit horse. Rather that than an unsound but fit horse, imho. The results would be same but costs would be very different. Now, as we get over the rain, another batch of virus has hit us.This is very aggravating and soul destroying, as it is out of our control, especially as we are a relatively small yard and don't have extra numbers as reserves.
Overall, the skill of the modern Trainer is to find the quality horse, then Train it properly, to go through the divisions or towards the Features. To me, the KZN boys have upped their game and are doing a much better job than in years gone by. However, it is still early days in the Season of Champions.
But, Yes, in order to take on the Cape Boys in the Features, you need quality to start with and yes, you need buying power for that.

Well that's my point.
Natal have as a whole, not been competitive against other provinces for quite some time.A lot of the major buying buyer has been centred outside of Natal.
Whilst being a trainer may be many things, you can't buy the horse if you don't have the right owners. That's my point to Craig. That,of all jobs,is the trainers primary job.Is it not?
Nobody says Natal trainers can't train. The training facilities at Summerveld are world class,so it can only be that the horses trained in Natal haven't been as fast(have as much ability) as horses from other centres.
Maybe today is a sign things are changing.

lol.the fiats did well in the 2yr old races, just like every year for the kzn trainers, and the cape horses were having pep runs today for the bigger features later on,but believe me many of the fiats we never hear from again when they turn 3,and many will not even make the final fields in the 3yr old classic races.some of the better young cape horses don't even make the trip to kzn because of the poor racing tracks in kzn.No need to gloat about winning minor gr3 feature races in your own province because when the big guns come out to play your trainers know they have no chance.I know it is sad,but it is so true it is not even funny anymore.Just look at the last 10 yrs and see the results of the feature races in kzn and you will realise just how far behind the kzn has fallen.just remember i'm only stating the obvious and the truth and i'm sure everyone who follows racing knows that kzn has become the soupmeat capital of RSA racing.

Well Winzip, where are those horses? Hibernating? Why so many small fields down there ? What u guys running - Livery yards ?
And if you want to talk about soupmeat, maybe you will consider that there are no prizes for guessing which region has the lowest turnovers...and consistently runs at a loss....
Anyway, there is no doubt that the Cape Boys have serious horses up here and that they will do very well as the Season progresses, irrespective of what had to be spent to find those few good ones and what the rest cost whilst standing in their stables. The point remains that the KZN boys did well today, which is very good for us.
