KZN tote take down 7%

That’s a huge drop, even with the World Cup to blame

I was told by aTurffontein trainer that " they " i can only presume Phumulelo - knew about this possible scenario a WEEK EARLIER - but obviously decided to brush it aside, and the Head Honchos headed off to DURBAN.....absolutely shocking that they knew drama may unfold - yet never had a contingency plan

What was Turffontein turnover down ?

EVERYONE at Turffontein must have been a BIG LOOSER last Saturday.

Turnover down - i am presuming.

What happened to all that food that was catered for.

What about extra staff that were hired ?

No boubt Oscar @ Dave had to pay for the food in their private box - but was hardly even touched with only 3 people in the box.

Poor Kelvin must have had a shocking day with sales of food @ booze, plus the extra staff he must have had.

I lost 80 kms. of fuel - with a wasted trip to @ from TURFFONTEIN.

I was informed of a potential strike as early as Tuesday last week. Much to my dismay and ignorance I had faith in that it was the biggest race day of the year, I’m sure it would sort itself out, or at least the powers that be sort it out so that the biggest day of the year wasn’t disrupted.

I ran a box on Saturday. We left it as long as possible to make a call re catering etc as we were concerned re the possibility of strikes. Friday afternoon we were a go. Stocked the bar to the standards that 16 people would be satisfied with. I had invited many friends, all young, new faces to racing in trying to promote the game (and show that it’s not true what is said, instead there’s an element of class) Five of us got in at 11. Others all stranded at the gates unable to get in. I ran around trying to do everything to get them in to no avail. (3 friends actually jumped the fence to bring our tally to eight from the budgeted 16.)

To her credit Agnes only charged us for food per head that arrived. Didn’t change the fact that we have loads of excess beverage though but suppose things could be worse.

My greatest embarrassment though is having promoted the game and the day so much with my friends to get them excited and to give racing a chance instead of jumping on the stereotype I can safely say that I will not be running a box there again and my friends being new to racing will I am sure never give me the time of day in returning to the place of many happy memories. Alas memories they will remain.

If all this could have been avoided then why not. I am sure I wasn’t the only loser. I ran into Mac and he informed me that him and another were the only two to get into Johnno’s box and we were thus quite lucky. When one has to consider themselves lucky to attend something that they booked and paid for that’s when you know something is wrong.

There will be many losers as has been said, but who will be accountable?

Those are the answers we want and need in a transparent sport, will we get them, I think my ignorant faith is somewhat worn.

What I understand about these strikes/protests/marches is that they are all illegal(I speak under correction),if this is the case why then are these indivduals/crowds not dispersed by the SAPS?

.....I'm sure that the Big P boys were also thinking that it would sort its self out too.....

....never thought that paying the R20/hour for 12 hour daily shifts to tote operators would be targeted by the EFF.....would anyone that earns a maximum R4800 a month under these conditions not have their day to object..... Heide's security staff also not paid enough to risk opening gates either.....

It's all Politics. With an election looming, EFF have ANC stone cold. Any move against strikers and then motor mouth Malema will chuck Marikana against Govt again and cite "the Govt is attacking its own people". On top of this there is division within the ANC and Cyril is caught between a rock and a hard place. The sooner elections are called, the better. The Country, in the meantime, suffers and is burning as law and order is put on the back burner.

As of yesterday evening, there is no reference to the Turffontein incidents on the NHA Website.
However there is a report of the stolen specimens which occured at night after racing at Greyville.
It is as if nothing happened!
