The official penetrometer reading was 22/23 - good going- but the times for the sprints and the comments from the jockeys suggest that it was at best yielding, so I think a mistake was made.
There was no wind. The front runners were very hard to peg back, and very few were able to make an impression running on from off the pace.
The low draws had a definite advantage down the straight.
Ride of the day goes to young Mbhele on Kamaishi in race 6. This filly is a natural front runner but he rode the rest to sleep. Only Cheyne on Love Supreme tried to stay in touch but couldn’t go with her under top weight. The rest were content to sit 20 lengths off the pace and paid the price.
A couple of very tight finishes and a really enjoyable day at the races.
Would have been even better if I had survived the first leg of the pick 6!!

Durbs, how many years have you worked for the jockey club? Are you only on the local panel or the international panel? Excuse my ignorance, I have been wanting to ask for a while, just never got around to it. Cheers. Kevin.

Love seeing Ryan Munger picking up rides. Very underrated jock who always gives of his best. Has come on leaps and bounds.
I didn't choose the #puntlife, the #puntlife chose me!
