TRAINER’S / JOCKEY’S COMMENTS AND FIRST FOUR SELECTIONS :
RACE 1 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
5 / 8 / 1 / 7
ALAN GREEFF - Number 1 - EDMONDA : She can run well if not too green.
SHARON KOTZEN - Numbers 3 and 6 - OYSTER BAR & SCARBOROUGH FAIR :
Oyster Bar was very green on debut last time out and the 800m was way
too quick. Up a furlong and with a little experience now she can
improve. Scarborough Fair is a nice filly, but we never push our
babies into their first runs, so she could be green.
GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 7 and 10 - STEADY BREEZE & YODALICIOUS : Both
fillies can be thereabouts if not too green.
RACE 2 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
8 / 7 / 1 / 5
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 4 and 8 - COZY CHESTNUT & SUN UP : Both
fillies have their first runs in PE. Cozy Chestnut should find this on
the short side. Sun Up is a very nice filly and will be competitive.
JACQUES STRYDOM - Numbers 5, 10 and 14 - DESERT WANDERER, HURRICANE
SASHA & MONTREUX : Desert Wanderer is in good form and should be right
there. Hurricane Sasha races off a little break, she is better than
her last and can place. Montreux races off a lengthy break and will
need this.
RACE 3 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
2 / 8 / 3 / 1
VAUGHAN MARSHALL (comments prior to travel) - Number 2 - ROCHESTER :
He races off good Cape form and should take a lot of beating.
SHARON KOTZEN - Number 3 - LET’S BE FRANK : He tries the mile and
cracks a good draw, we are hoping to see him in the shake up.
RACE 4 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
2 / 1 / 4 / 3
TARA LAING - Numbers 1 and 4 - GO DIRECT & FREE AGENT : Go Direct is
back to his best distance and must have a good chance. Free Agent is
up in the weights and takes on stronger but he is not without chance.
GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 2, 6 and 7 - WILD BRIER, EVOLVER & SEATTLE
SWING : Wild Brier enjoys track and trip. Evolver was touched off in
his last and another good run is expected. Seattle Swing is in good
form and always thereabouts.
RACE 5 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
2 / 6 / 3 / 5
JACQUES STRYDOM - Numbers 3, 7 and 12 - MAHIR, TITUS & OMAHA TRIBE :
Mahir won very well last time out and can be involved again. Titus
would have found his last too short, the blinkers are off and he will
run a better race. Hoping for improvement from Omaha Tribe.
GRANT PADDOCK - Numbers 6, 8 and 11 - COUNTRY ROCK, KEANAN’S ROCK &
SUCHA CHARMER : Country Rock is trying the trip, but it is a step in
the right direction, he probably wants even further eventually. He is
a progressive three year old, is working well and does have an each
way chance. Keanan’s Rock is also trying the trip, but I do believe it
will suit, he is also working well and can place. Hoping for
improvement from Suchacharmer.
RACE 6 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
4 / 1 / 8 / 6
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 2, 5 and 6 - UNION JACK, BREAKFAST CLUB &
STREAK OF SILVER : Union Jack will be better suited to this trip and
is in with a shout. Breakfast Club is very honest, but probably would
be more competitive on Poly. Streak of Silver is holding form well and
can earn.
GAVIN SMITH - Number 8 - FANTASY ART : He is very consistent but
does take on stronger.
RACE 7 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
2 / 1 / 4 / 7
TARA LAING - Number 1 - CAPTAIN MAROONED : We’ve been wanting to try
him over this distance for awhile now, we think he’ll get it and he
has a good chance.
ALAN GREEFF - Number 2 - SEVILLE : He won well on local debut and
though he is up in class having his post maiden run, he does have a
chance at going back to back.
RACE 8 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
3 / 4 / 2 / 1
GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 2, 6 and 7 - WILDCAT, MASTERFUL & BAYETO :
Wildcat may prefer the longer run in, his last on Poly was a fair
effort. Masterful has a quartet chance. Hoping for improvement from
Bayeto.
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 3 and 5 - AFRICAN MESSIAH & LEAGUE GAME :
African Messiah won his last well and is in with an each way chance
again. League Game shows more at track and we are hoping for
improvement.
RACE 9 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
7 / 3 / 1 / 2
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 3 and 5 - VOICES OF LIGHT & POPINJAY : It is a
competitive field but Voices of Light is in good form and working very
well at home, he should be right there. Popinjay takes on the boys and
must do her best.
VAUGHAN MARSHALL (comments prior to travel) - Number 7 - JEPHTHAH :
He races off solid form and has an each way chance

Based purely on betting movements, i suspect Smith might be a little hesitant to say they chucked Muzi on the "wrong " one , got the price and Yodalicious will not be green and will shit in....

My fancies today:
R3: ROCHESTER (has been running against stronger in CT and is meeting a weak bunch)
R4: LAWS OF SUCCESSION (has been racing in features and will be cherry ripe)
R5: COUNTRY ROCK (loved the way the horse ran on last time and Fourie will suit)

Morning Bob,
Gavin does not read forums such as this, but I do, so an “insider” factual response to this persistent line of thought, if I may? :
“Karma replied the topic: Fairview Friday
Based purely on betting movements, i suspect Smith might be a little hesitant to say they chucked Muzi on the "wrong " one , got the price and Yodalicious will not be green and will shit in....”
Firstly, Gavin will almost always put the stable “away-jock” on a client’s horse, in preference to one of his own. Secondly, Gavin will almost always put an apprentice jockey with a claim, on a horse he believes can benefit from the claim, in order to get the best possible result from that horse. Thirdly, unlike in many other stables, the stable “away –jock” will also not ride a horse that has reputation of being difficult, unless a top horse. Local work riders who have experience with such horses will almost always get the ride. Decisions are not made in order to fool the punter, but for the best outcome for the owners, horses, and jockeys. If this is a crime, then so be it!
If Yodalicious can win I will be shouting for her, as will I for Steady Breeze, if she is in a winning position.
Regards
Andrew Smith
(In my personal capacity, and not as a spokesperson for the stable).

10 Yodalicious # 14.00 6.00 5.00 3.30 2.50 2.20 4.10 3.50 3.00 3.05
No doubt in my mind who they will be shouting home.
14-1 into 22-10 then drifted out to 4-1 and they took it again into 3-1
Would look a little silly if they get beaten by the stable companion with all the money on Yodalicious.

Well that went horribly wrong.
At least they beat their stable companion.
