Racing Roulette is here!
6 years 4 months ago
TAB will launch a new horseracing bet on the Sun Met race meeting at Kenilworth this Saturday that should appeal to new and existing horseracing fans alike.
JANUARY 23, 2019
The bet is called Racing Roulette, which is modelled on the popular casino game and each horse in a race is assigned to one of three colour groups – red, black and green.
Players can bet on one or more of the three colours and the winner of the race determines the winning colour.
So if the winner of the race is in the red group, all players who bet on red collect.
“The concept was launched recently at Santa Anita Racecourse in California and it’s an exciting and fun way of betting on the horses, which TAB is aiming primarily at first-time racegoers and new horseracing fans,” said Phumelela betting executive Rob Scott.
“But Racing Roulette should also appeal to many existing horseracing fans, especially in instances where a punter likes two horses in a race and both are in the same colour group. We will decide where and when to offer Racing Roulette into the future after the Sun Met,” he added.
Racing Roulette rules are identical to the TAB Win bet. The unit of the bet is R1 with a minimum bet of R6. There are no refunds except if all horses in a colour group are scratched, in which case all bets on that colour are refunded.
An algorithm determines the horses in each colour group with the favourite usually being assigned to red and the second favourite to black. The number of runners in each colour group will depend on the number of runners in the race.
Racing Roulette will be in operation on four races at the Sun Met race meeting – Races 6 (Betting World Cape Flying Championship), Race 7 (Cape Derby), Race 9 (Sun Met) and Race 11.
To play the bet please note the following:
* Mark or call venue oval 10/Racing Roulette (not WEST CAPE)
* Mark or call race number
* Mark or call colour group number: 1 = RED; 2 = BLACK; 3 = GREEN.
The Racing Roulette races and horses in each colour group will be clearly shown in TAB sheets for the race meeting and there will be a special TAB Racing Roulette sheet with only the four Racing Roulette races.
Racing Roulette will be trialled on Race 4 at Fairview on Wednesday.

Ok let me run through this. Eg
12 runners 4 allocated to red green black with the best horse allocated to red
So we all play into the kitty less a percentage to the operator
Then winning tickets divided into pool
So normally the red will be shorter payout than green and the black the higher payout.
Lets have a check when it kicks in .

Could be interesting
When will it be decided which horse is in which group - would help if this is published sooner rather than later - ideally should have gone into the Computaform ?

Two things :
1.) I notice they make no mention of how much the takeout is.
2.) They introduce a new bet on a day when the tote is inclined to fall over due to additional pressures. Clever.

Not a bad idea for 1st timers in an effort to generate churn. No self respecting punter would bet into these pools though, the percentages would be ridiculous. Whilst we are in the process of dumbing down racing why don't we introduce the following bets :
1. Odds or evens being the number of the winning horse
2. Colour of winning horse
3. Pool the jocks into categories and offer betting on that
4. Do the same with trainers
5. Winning margin of winner - less than half a length, 0.5l- 1l, 1l-3l, 3l and over
6. Bracket the MR of horses into categories and offer betting - MR54-56, MR57-58, MR59-60 etc
7. On days where the weather may affect the outcome of the meeting offer betting on how many races will be run before the jocks object
The possibilities are endless.

......hope they are circling around to bringing back P6 couplings.....FFS to couple horses that have no relation to training and riding instruction.....and then deny those that should be coupled in on of the biggest daily betting pools.....

With your long range perms no coupling rules should suit you Muthi and by default not too bad a decision if racing ends up with not much more then a handful of big trainers

If it was done correctly, for example in a twelve horse field, it should be 5 horses BLACK, 5 Horses RED and 2 horses GREEN. I anticipate the payouts will be around 15 - 30% return on your money..in the region of R1.20 - R1.30 payout on average

Magi my post was not a statement it was just a question to confirm the workings?
I see that in race 4 today its 4/5/6 horses in the 3 options to try and level the betting
